View Full Version : NY and LA network feeds
Does anyone know of any location(s) in the US that D* will allow a sub to get both east and west coast feeds without getting wavers?
It can happen, you wouldnt get them automatcily you would have to call D* and you COULD be approved for them. I was approved for Fox and NBC right away CBS and ABC needed waivers. But I think your chances for finding an area where you can get approved right away is slim to none. But ya never know. Try looking out in Wyoming or Montana or the Dakotas, they are very rural out there. Just go to E*'s website (yes thats right E*) and check the zip codes there, E*'s site tells you what channels you can get as distans automaticly and which ones you need to apply for.

Try using an address in the Florida keys.

Sure it can happen, happens in a lot of places. Where I am is one of them. Cooper TX is in Delta county, thus the Dallas DMA, but we're too far to get anything over the air. Therefore, not only do I get the Dallas stations, I get all four networks from New York and LA. Check out the Distant Networks page at EchoStar: http://customersupport.dishnetwork.com/customernetqual/nqCustomerLocalsCheck.jsp
For addresses, if you want your DMA's locals, you'll need to find something out "in the country," or behind some mountains or something. If you're not interested in your locals, then just pick some place in the middle of nowhere (Colorado rockies are a good choice, as is a large portion of West Texas) and go for it.
AJ2086 has a point, that with neither provider do you just change your address and they pop onto your account. You have to specifically ask that you be considered for them, and then D*/E* will run it through their database and check. In my case, when I moved here, it took about 3 minutes to get qualified for all 4, and the channels were activated before I got off the phone.

I used the 71945 zip code in Arkansas, with an address of a business and I can get both east and west coast feeds with Dish.
Just "MOVE" to get them like everyone else. Keep the mailing address the real one and the service address the one where you can get the nets.
I was noticing he lived in CA. Legally, it shouldn't happen. He'll need waivers.
Thanks everyone for your input. This is the deal. I plan to spend 6 mos/year in Puerto Vallarta Mx and want to get NFL Sun Ticket on D* while there. I currently sub to E* in california, but they don't do NFLST. While there, I would also want the east and west feeds of the networks. It seems that it is easy to get this info from DISH website, but not DirecTV.
The hard part about getting distants without waivers through D* is that, typically, the rural areas that qualify for distants must go through Pegasus to get their programming. If you're getting what you want from E*, maybe you can get a mininimum sub to D* for NFLST and leave your E* account as is.

OK, here's what you do: If you don't get distants from EchoStar/Dish Network, go ahead and pick up DirecTV. When they ask for your service address, make up one that's out in the boonies. If you're feeling lazy and don't want to search, 76446 (Dublin TX) qualifies for Dallas DMA locals and both distant nets, last time I read about it. Once you're all set up, go online and change your billing address to whatever you like. You won't get the Dallas locals, as they're on a spotbeam you likely can't see, but you will get the distant nets since you're authed for them.
Getting the equipment to you before you go (especially on the free promos) is left as an excercise to the reader (though I'll throw you a bone here, too: Have it shipped to you in California, let them install it. Once they're gone, wait a couple days and call up to "move" to Texas, or Arkansas as a previous poster mentioned)
Good luck,
Wes

Good suggestions from both MikeW and wessmills. I went to the Dish site and Dublin qualifies just as you said wess. I wish D* had a similar search on their site. I plan to keep E* operating here in Calif for the house sitters, that is why I was just considering D* for Mexico.
