According to MSNBC the death of an Al Jazeera reporter is being accounted by them as follows, “The reporter was a martyr to his duty. Murdered by the Americans to cover up their crimes in Baghdad”.  The MSNBC correspondent who related this translation was at CentCom standing ten feet away from the Al Jazeera folks as they broadcast these statements. I am sorry for the death of this reporter, but he was in a combat zone. Al Jazeera must have a laughably grandiose opinion of themselves to think that US forces would pick them out for targeting.

When I watched this, it was obvious that the tanks were aiming at the camera. The deal is that some these tanks have automatic "counter-sniper" technology. The problem is that the scope of a sniper's rifle looks an aweful lot like a camera lense. Especially if the camera lens is equiped with infra-red detection capability.

See ya

I saw that as well, first the rounds from the M2 (.50cal), then the one round from the main gun, camera got back on it's feet and then an air strike between the camera and the tanks as if there was a target in the foreground, but that was not an Al Jazeera camera.

I think they are reporting that the Al Jazeera death happened early, during the night.

Wasn't some Al Jazeera facility hit in Afghanistan during the last war in Afghanistan too?

I am not sure, if because I was quoted the question is addressed to me? If it is however, I don’t know the answer.

MSNBC is now quoting Kuwaiti TV as saying the Al Jazeera reporter killed was standing in the proximity of an Anti-Aircraft Gun that was firing on the aircraft that dropped the bomb.

"Murdered by the Americans to cover
up their crimes in Baghdad"

We kill thousands of Iraqi soldiers and
that's war. We inadvertently kill one
Arab reporter and it's murder.

Well, there you have it - fair and balanced
reporting, Arab style.

The Arab press seem even worse than the US press in always looking for a conspiracy. It is pretty easy to not get killed as a reporter. Don't stay in country. Bombs, shells, bullets, buildings falling, etc may kill you, DUH!

Is it just me or is Darwin laughing? We seem to be cleaning out the shallow end of the gene pool the longer we conduct this war.......

Not standing next to an AAA would be a sensible thing, no? To do nothing but save your hearing, even? Why don't they just ride a tank while they are at it?

Maybe it's those nifty tee shirts donated by Target Stores. You know, the ones with the big red target logos imprinted on the front and back.

Or maybe it's because they sit around watching "Just Shoot Me" reruns.

Or maybe its a death wish motivated by the promise of all those virgins waiting in paradise.

No, it because Iraqi snipers were firing on allied troops from the hotel windows. Whose idea was that anyway?

I've know a couple of virgins in my life. And I'll tell you, meeting 72 of them would be more like Hell than Heaven......
