View Full Version : 721 Grounding ?
I just got off the phone with dish and they said that they will not ground my system because I live on the second floor in a apartment so no ground block...
( why not just sink a ground rod ? )
( because the ground could dry up and not make a good ground )
Wow I think I just got a load of B.S.
Now I need to purchace a outlet surge protector with a 2 cable input and output do you guys know where I can find this kind of surg protector?
Man I tell you what Dish Network is ON my last nerve and the funny thing is I've only had D.N. for 2 months
Thanks Chuck Wallace
Chuck,
I hope you got the name of the person you talked to and you call back and speak to a supervisor. There is no reason that a ground wire can not be installed from the second floor. If they use a ground rod, the ground rod MUST be bonded (connected) to your home's common ground.

If you do sink a ground rod, remember it must be at least 8 feet long, and it must be grounded to the house common as well as the dish.
Each apartment also has some type of ground. Check in your utilities closet where the water heater is. I'll bet you find one there.
Also, for surge protection, we only use Panamax. Their new DP certified units have two satellite in/out for dual tuner units

Bob,
Thats it Im sure my apartment complex won't allow me to ground to the main so I guess I will have to go with the surg protection option....
ONE FOOT IN MOUTH SORRY DISH I WAS WRONG..
Thanks For your reply...

hmmm...vewwy interesting---you know what?? After my second 721 disc failure, Dish sent their own installers out to my condo to properly ground the system on the THIRD floor!! (they didn't charge me, either)...I guess maybe they figured it is cheaper to provide a properly grounded install than to replace a 721 every month or so...

By using the surge surpressor you are going through the electrical ground, right?
