Hi-

My parents have a 61" RCA Rear-Projection HDTV with what is essentially a built-in DTC-100. I bought it open-box in 2003 when I worked at Circuit City (crazy cheap at the time by the way :D ) and immediately hooked it up and had it working with the oval dish, and used it for DirecTV HD. I gave it to my parents a couple of years ago, and they didn't activate the receiver inside of the TV because it wasn't compatible with the 72.5 dish. Recently their locals went to HD, and I wondered if this old receiver MIGHT be compatible with receiving the locals on the slimline dish......I seriously doubt it is, but I thought it would be worth asking on the offhand chance there was some kind of firmware update that would allow it to see the new satellites. Thanks!

Speaking from total ignorance here, but I sincerely doubt that this receiver can receive anything other than MPEG2.

The new HD locals are MPEG4. The SD locals on 72.5 are in MPEG2 -- their HD versions when added recently are not on 72.5 and are in MPEG4.

makaiguy is correct. That old RCA Receiver can only receive MPEG2 SD channels, no HD channels.

Well, it could receive DirecTV HD channels, that was its major selling point.....but I'm guessing only MPEG-2 ones, because the elliptical dish was the newest dish it was compatible with. Oh well, that's what I figured, but didn't think it would hurt to ask!
