Federal Communications Commission officials are sticking to
their June 2 date for a vote on media ownership rules.

FCC's Media Bureau Chief Ken Ferree on Tuesday said "there will
be no delay ... June 2 is the date" for a vote on the proposed
rules, which regulates ownership of newspapers, radio
and television stations. The FCC's work and upcoming vote on
the rules, led by Chairman Michael Powell, comes as a small
group of lawmakers and consumer groups press for more scrutiny
of any proposed changes.

Powell said during an NAB panel Tuesday to expect some
relaxation of media ownership regulations, but "You should not
look to the total elimination of all the rules."

Media insider Barry Diller, in an address given to NAB
attendees Monday, said he opposes certain changes in broadcast
ownership rules. He lent his support to the prohibition on
companies from owning TV stations with a combined reach of 35
percent or more of the national audience.

Diller, chairman and CEO of USA Interactive, also said, "I
believe having tight program ownership and financial interest
rules for the already completely concentrated cable
and satellite business is mandatory."
