The Yankee Group, in its most-recent study on the satellite TV
business, said small dish services will continue to grow, but
digital cable will maintain the lead it has over DBS.

According to the research firm, DBS will serve 27.1 million
households by year-end 2007, growing from 20.6 million
households projected for year-end 2003. The figure is 9
percent lower than Yankee Group's previous forecast of 29.7
million households by 2007. The company said it reduced the
forecast due to the lower net growth rate for DBS in 2002 and
the anticipated positive impact of video-on-demand for digital
cable.

The Yankee Group said digital cable will maintain its lead
over DBS. Digital cable will serve 22.6 million households at
the end of 2003, and by year-end 2007 digital cable will have
grown to 39 million households. VOD and HDTV will be the main
drivers of digital cable growth over the next five years, the
firm said.

Yankee Group also said DBS will continue to attract basic
subscribers away from cable, at a rate of less than 1 percent
each year. And DBS will effectively target the base of
households that do not have access to an upgraded cable
network.

In addition, PVRs will be critical for DBS to compete with
digital cable, the research firm said.
