View Full Version : Distored Sound on ESPN HD

I have been searching the forums, and can't find anything like this. Forgive me if it's already been discussed.

I have 2 Directv HD DRV's, an HR20, and HR21. On my HR21, at times when i turn to ESPN HD, I get really distorted sound. The picture is great, but the sound is filled with static (if that makes sense). If I turn the channel, leave it for a minute or so, and turn back, once, maybe a few times, it will cure itself, and sound fine.

This doesn't happen on any other HD channel. Nor does it happen on my HR20.

Is this a bad HR21? i wouldn't think so, as no other channels sound bad. It's only ESPN HD, and maybe ESPN2 (not 100% sure about the Deuce, but think it might happen.) I have had it about 2 months, got it from Best Buy. Not sure if I can still take it back or not.

Thanks for any help you could offer.

Yep - there distorted "stutters" of Audio-only happen from time to time. Seems to be only on the MPEG4 channels, and very often on the LILs. We experieince this on ABC (channel 7) like every few minutes... The OTA signal does not have the problem .. nor did the SD versions of the same channels.

We routinely hear the "stuttering" audio on KGO, channel 7, in Northern CA. I believe it's present on every program transmitted on this channel. Does anyone know how, and to whom, such transmission problems should be reported?

Yep - KGO ch 7 is by far the worst. I emailed KGO's tech team about a month or so ago to report this annoyance. They have yet to fix it although they "claim" that they replaced some hardware... I suggest that you also email them from their web site contact info.

KGO's issue is an encoding problem. They (and D*) have known about this for many, many months.

I've made a zillion calls to their engineering department and they always say "they're working on it"

Call 415-559-1047 and become one of the complainers. Maybe they'll actually fix it.

Good info, thanks. I will certainly call to add my voice to the chorus of complaints.
