I have read many posts in this forum looking for referrals for DirecTV service and sales from a company in their area. Some even suggesting a dbstalk.com backed referral list page. I can fully understand the reasons why not to do this. While it is raining here today and it looks like I have the day off, I kicked my search into gear and started looking for just such companies here in the southeast. After finding my first company I stopped right here.
EDIT: In no way, shape, or form is this an endorsement for this company. I can't personally vouch for them as I have never employed their services, and only know what I have read about them on their website.

EDIT: The reason I did this search is to show that if you dig a little bit it might be to your advantage to find someone local to you versus the 800 number route.
Thanks to Noresults for his reply.... Two of the points that he made and I'm glad this company in Salem, Oregon is doing it right!
"Sure it cost me a little more but I got what I wanted and I have someone I can call for service".
"I just do not care for 1-800-we - dont- care service".

I wanted swm and since it was not offered I searched for a dealer that would work with me. I purchased the swm lnb for the dish and had them install it. Sure it cost me a little more but I got what I wanted and I have someone I can call for service. I just do not care for 1-800-we - dont- care service.

No one else has had a good experience with a local DirecTV Dealer/Installer that they would feel comfortable in recommending or at least mentioning? Solid Signal gets recommended for parts and equipment for the do it your self guys or to have the parts available for the free "professional" installation they are about to receive.
Why not local guys? I guess that they a dying breed or maybe even gone.
It boggles my brain that with some of the awful installs people post about here, that more aren't searching out custom installs from their own area.

I had a really great local independent guy do my install... and actually referred several friends and family members to him... but the last time I tried to call him, his number had been disconnected... so i guess he's no longer in business...

You need to remember that only those with negative experiences usually post. I've had 3 free installs (initial, movers, upgrade) over the last 8 years and they all went perfectly. The first one even ran extra lines for me and the upgrade installer gave me a box of cable for free so that I could run some of my own lines through the attic (which wasn't part of the install).
In 8 years, I've yet to need a service call for realignment (or anything else).

Airocker,
have you tried Premier Satellite systems? I've talked to them a few times and from what I am hearing, they look promising compared to Directec southwest...
