On both of my HR21-100 (1 CE 1 NR) tuner 2 will give me a searching for signal error. On sat 101 sig. strength tuner 1 is 90-100, tuner 2 0-100. If I switch the input coax it does not fix the problem. Usually a reboot will temporarily fix it, however lately not. DTV is sending a tech out but not until Nov 16. Is this likely a LNB issue? My set up is through a multi switch. Thanks.

i had the same issue until i installed a SWM lnb. anyway, try rerunning your satellite setup. this was the only step i didnt do until hooking up the SWM and changing the setup

There is some kind of bug with the HR21-100 and Tuner 2. I will be going SWM this week so i wont have the issue anymore but best option is to replace the box

2 boxes doing same thing at same time is most likely an issue with something common to both boxes.
could be coax, switch, lnb.

Now if they are both HR21-100's then maybe. See I had one here at a friends house and it was doing the exact same thing. D* replaced the IRD 4 times. Finally they came back and to my approval they put in SWM ODU. That fixed the issue immediately. The HR21-100 has been rock solid since then. There is a definate bug in the IRD. No my HR22-100 has been solid on SWM from the start. I think it has something to do with the comm. between the HR21 and thew multi-switch. Elimanate the switch. Eliminate the problem

I've got 2 hr21 running, they were on wb616 for a bit then on swm-8 and never seen this.
in your case they replaced something common and it fixed it. OP doesn't say what the switch is but I wonder if this is an issue with unpowered wb68, and if so is this a common denominator when all units are having the same issue.
as you said eliminate the switch, eliminate the problem. its possible its the ird, but I wonder if its more a question of how the switch is reacting to the ird.

its not 4 IRD's. It is the switch configuration. That's all I can see. If it was teh IRD it wouldn't have stopped. It was VERY noticeable at my friends house. Something betwwen the switch, and it could be the wb68 and the HR21-100. I ave an HR21-700 and never had an issue before I went swm. What model HR21- are you running

running 2 hr21-100 and 1 hr20-100, but all on swm8 now. all 3 were on the wb616 at the same time too.
I've never used a wb68 switch so I don't know if it would react this way, but from your experiences it really seems it could be.

is there any way you can run a day or 2 using just 2 dvr's and bypassing the switch?

Well the tech came out. Changed the switch with some improvment. Grounded the coax (by touching it) in the house and all was good. Replaced both my HR21-100 with hr22's. He re did all the wiring and ground at the switch. 101 on tuner 2 still is not great (60-90) but better than before. I'll wait and see if I get 771 errors. If so what else could be wrong? Wiring? LNB???

I had this error yesterday 11/16/08. My 771 error was only on Tuner 2 and only on 303, 305, 383, 387, and 389. A RBR took care of the problem for a few minutes but then it came back. Tech support said electrical problem and is sending out a tech Sat (that's the earliest day I can be home during the day).
Funny thing is that on Saturday I had one HR 20 swapped out for another HR20 because of a bad OTA tuner. While there on Saturday 11/15 the tech had problems with the sat setup becasue a grid of boxes came up indicating the sats and odd even. This box had 4 red X's and one grey box. The installer switched the multiswitch, the LNB's and some fittings and the red boxes would not go away. He finally called Directv Tech support and they told him to ignore the red X's. He did and the box worked fine until Sunday when the above noted problem began. To complicate matters further all was working fine this morning.
