It is being reported by the Atlanta HDTV forums that as of late last night, ESPN HD was showing up in the DirectTV guides with "Upcoming: Dodgers vs Giants" as the guide text.
SatC, Triple LNBs needed to see the channel...
Just reporting what they are saying as I am a Dish subscriber, can anyone with HDTV setup for DirectTV see this?

Still nothing as of last night (seems like a lot of bogus information from that Atlanta HDTV forum)
Also no mention of this over at AVSForum.
Here is the latests on ESPN-HD from DirecTV.
ESPN HD initially will not be available via satellite.
Unfortunately, DirecTV has “no immediate plans to carry the
feed,” says spokesperson Robert Mercer. “We expect to expand
our offerings as we add capacity, and ESPN will be among the
first to be evaluated.” Mercer says DirecTV would launch a new
spot beam satellite later this year. This will open a “lot of capacity” for additional programming. He says local channels are
important for DirecTV and so is HDTV. DirecTV currently airs
HBO, Showtime, HDNet and pay-per-view movies in high definition.

I've been reluctant to wade into the whole ESPN-HD discussion because the speculation-to-facts ratio seems totally out of control.
However, the Mercer note you posted _suggests_ a new fact: For DirecTV, at least, capacity is an issue as well as price.
Scott, would you agree?
Also, when was the Mercer statement made?
Thanks!

I haven't seen any misinformation posted in that group but there is always a "first" time.
The other thing I thought about is that he might be a hack, doesn't pay for a D* subscription and can see it in the guide.
Since I don't have D* thought I would post to see if anyone else could see it.

Ok, another guy in that forums is reporting he can see it also and that it is on D* channel 426.

Channel 426 is ESPN-D not HD. (ESPN-D is ESPN Deportes which is the Spanish version of ESPN.)
From what I know they only broadcast on Sundays.
The Mercer statement is from yesterday.

Ah, that is what I get for reporting something when I am not a D* subscriber. ;)

The thing that makes it comfusing is the channel usually only shows up on the weekend in the guide. It is labeled as ESPN-D (Or ESPND) so may folks see this pop in the guide and think ESPN-HD is coming.
I see this posted all the time over at AVSforums. :)
