External Hard Drive Problem

After 1 year I am now getting errors when I go to transfer to my Seagate EHD. It starts transferring, gives error message, disconnects HD even though it is still connected and then says there is no hard drive connected. Anybody else having this problem? Cause?

Can you play recordings back from the drive?

My first inclination would be that the drive is going bad, but could be a software problem. Do you get the error every time you transfer, or is it sporadic?

VIP 622. Yes can play recordings back from the external drive but cannot add anything new with lots of space available on EHD. I called dish and got the usual run around with nobody really knowing. Only answer I got was that they were going to refer back to their software department with no committment to call me back. Their answer was to just keep trying it. This thing worked great for a year and now is doing this.

When this same thing happened to my 622, the only solution I found was to upgrade to a 722. The EHD feature is really nice (except for the user interface on the X22's), but some 622's seem to have issues with it. I don't want to save a lot of programming and not feel confident that I can replay it. That's the reason I upgraded.

sounds like the USB port is going bad. Do you unplug the external allot? I used to get the same problem on my PC with the front panel USBs. After a few yeas of regular usage my PC could see jump drives and cameras but when I tried to transfer data to/from it would shut down the port and loose the device. After replacing the case and connecting the new front panels the issue disappeared.
