My HR20 died last week, and I got a HR22 as a replacement. I had purchased a RF backlit remote for my HR20, but the installer explained that the old remote was not compatible with the HR22, which only came with an IR remote.

Has anyone had a similar problem. Will Direct send a RF backlit remote without charge? They have already agreed to send an AM21 for OTA.

I want to explore this before I call.

I don't know what the installer was "thinking".

You have a backlit remote that is either an RC32-RF or an RC64RB
The HR22 will work fine with either.
The HR22 came out of the box in IR, and your remote is still in RF mode.
You can program your remote to your HR22, but since the two aren't "talking" right now, you'll need to use the front panel on the HR22 and go into the setup menu, then remote, and then change it to RF. [you'll need to use the arrows and select on the box to do this.]
Once you get the the screen to program the remote for RF, follow the steps WITH your remote.
Once you have the code for the HR22 loaded, it will work as it did with your old receiver.

My HR22 came with an RF remote. If it has the FCC sticker on the back it is capable of RF.
