I have had a Dish 622 DVR since it came out back in early 2006. I am thinking of canceling the service to save $$. Questions:

1. Can I keep the DVR or do I have to send it back?
2. Will it be usable at all with the service turned off?
3. Will I have to pay any cancellation fees?

We already have basic cable that we can use and also have OTA capabilities. Can you use the DVR to record programs from cable or OTA?

Thanks.

1. Unless you purchased it from a local dealer it is leased and you MUST return it.

3. If you are not under a contract (normally, 24 months) there is no cancellation fee or other charges as long as you return your equipment. Remember, you need to return any LNBs and switches that DISH installed (unless you bought them).

You can NOT use the DISH DVRs to record programs from cable.

And even if you dropped $200 bucks on it in 2006, you need to return it. That's what Dish charged for the privilege of leasing it back in the day.
