View Full Version : unusual pixelization/sound problem

I'm sure this has been asked before, but my problem seems unusual.

On certain channels (usually the Freeview channel 103 or 801, and my Fox Sports Net, among others) I get extreme freezing/ pixelization and a loud annoying chirp sound. This only happens on the living room receiver (sony B55), and never on the receiver in the bedroom. I've lived with it for awhile, but I noticed yesterday that If I turn on the bedroom receiver at the same time, the problem goes away. I switched receivers, and it still happens only in the living room! So I've eliminated that theory. BTW, signal strength is good on all transponders, and the dish is "grounded" to an outdoor light fixture. (I know that's wrong, but it's the only way the installer would reluctantly do it.)

Next, I switched the cables at the LNB. Yep. Still only does it in the living room. Does this sound like a bad LNB or a bad cable? I guess my next step is to replace the RG-6 cable from the LNB to the living room receiver. Does any one have any experience with a problem like this?

It could be moisture, squashed cable, or loose connector.

If you switched the lines at the LNB and the problem continued, and you've changed the receivers and still see picture freeze, then you've isolalated the problem as your coax.

I did a service call yesterday that was a bad fitting.

Either the connectors or the coax is not allowing enough voltage from the receiver to operate the LNB.
