I want to buy a cheap (< $100) 13" color TV, but not all such TV's appear to be controllable by the Dish "Platinum" remotes.

Can anyone recommend a cheap 13" color TV that is known to be compatible with the Dish remotes?

I have several of the 13" "Sylvania" branded TV's scattered around the house and they work just fine. Their picture quality is good and Sears often discounts them to about $70. They have front A/V and rear RF inputs. The only problem I've had using the DISH remote with them is that the mute button appears to put the TV into some kind of diagnostic routine and the only escape is to turn the TV off with the button on the set.

Toshiba also has a decent TV for about $90. This should be able to be controlled by the remote.

Here is an idea...take the remote and the manual with you to the store and try it out there. :)

I also have the small Sylvania 13" TV's. They work great and can be purchases at Sam's Club for about $70.

RCA's can be controlled from the Dish remotes well. They are not recommended though bc of reliability issues.

I have a 13" Sylvania in the bedroom and the older 3900 remote will not control it. I wanted to put the 3900 in there but my wife would go bonkers with 2 remotes, so I hooked her up OTA Analog. OTA looks a lot better than Dish locals anyway, even on a 13" TV.

I find very few TVs that cannot be controlled by the Dish remote. Almost any brand that you heard of will work, but I can tell you that some really cheap models such as Apex, Changhong and Konka cannot be controlled by the Dish remote. Also, about 98% of TV/VCR combos will not work either.

What is the deal with the TV/VCR combos not working with them? How come does it not work with those? Do they use a totally different IR signal for those than they do on the standalone TV and VCR's?

Yes, Manufacturers usually use different codes for TV/VCR combos :(
