View Full Version : Installer only using a SINGLE LNB for a SWM LNB HD install..
Im having a slimline install as we speak. The installer is using a SWM LNB but it only has one circle on it instead of the 3 that I've been seeing. Is this correct? It's for HD..

Unless you need some of the international programming that's on 119 or your SD locals are there they are going to the LNB that sees only 99/101/103 since there's nothing on the other two satellites you need.

119 carries SD locals in some smaller markets, and also carries some Latino (Spanish language) programming as well as Jade World (Chinese). If you don't need those, you don't need 110 or 119, and the SL3-S LNB the installer is using will get you everything you need.
The "one circle" is actually 3 LNBs in one assembly, and will pick up 99, 101, and 103. All the HD is on 99 and 103.
so heres the deal..the installer used the SWM LNB with the one circle on it..he was trying to get the 119 with this LNB but that LNB does not pick up 119 right? There was signal strength 96+ on 101 and 103...but could not pick up 119..so whats the deal? He kept on saying 119 is important but was only using a "one circle" SL3S-lnb..So the install was not complete and I had to reschedule.

Sounds like you had a real idiot out there doing the install, or at least one that wasn't up on the new hardware. The single LNB SWM does not see 110 or 119. 119 used to be important since it had the guide data when looking at the MPEG4 HD channels, but the single LNB SWM fixes that problem. I'd call up D*, make a bit of a stink about it and ask for an account credit or something for wasting your time.
and he didnt even try looking for the 99...he looked for the 101 110 and 119 thats it...He was here for five hours...He left the dish up and took everything else..
if im getting 96+ on 101 it sucks he couldnt finish the install and was looking for the 119 with the 3lnb swm

Here is a picture of my 3 LNB SWM(and PI); If the right hand object is your LNB you had an under trained installer. This LNB is for 99,101, and 103.

Just noticed he took the boxes..never mind!

A real genius that "installer" was, you have to set the receiver to Slimline 3 so that it does not look for 110/119.
i thought he clicked slimline 3 lnb but it was looking for the 101 110 and 119? Am i right on that? i know for sure i had 96+ signal on the 101 he didnt even try 99.. but the 119 could not be found and the installer said he couldnt understand why(this was his first SWM LNB install) and that 119 was importnat...i didnt realize it untill it was to late and he left and took the receivers with him but the dish is still up...
He must have done 3 LNB if it only had 101/110/119
Slimline 3 is the one that is 99/101/103.
Can be confusing. 3 LNB is the old Phase III dish.
Yea he probably didnt do that... Stinks for him i guess that he was here all this time and doesn't get paid for the job. Hopefully i dont have problems getting 99 and 103.. do you think i will considering i get 96+ signal on 101?

The beamwidth of the dish is narrower on 99 and 103, but if the installer follows the dithering procedure it should be fine (just peaking on 101 isn't adequate).

Bob,
You are correct........but the dithering process was written by engineers for engineers....(at least literate dudes, yo!). In lieu of the dithering process......set the mast plumb, dial in the correct settings to peak 101.....select the correct LNB...and give a little poosch west.
DTV may end up color coding the LNBs
