Does anyone know the link on the DirecTv web site to check on the status of the DNS? Thanks

Not sure what you're looking for... I've never had to get a DNS from DirecTV. When I network, the DNS comes from my home network... and I use static IP's for each of my HR's.

If you tell us what you're trying to do, maybe we can help you out a little better!

And....:welcome_s Welcome to DBSTalk!

Unfortantly our local cable company is preventing Direc Or Dish from carrying local channels(according to my installer) So I had to request a waiver for the distant networks. I saw a post on here last week for a link to check the distant networks off of the direc tv web site. Thanks for your time............

This is the one I use. It is pretty helpful. One is to submitt waivers and then there is the history that tells you when you submitted it and what has been approved or denied.

Helpful to the extent that you can bug your local station. Chances of actually getting a waiver...between slim and none.

Not so. I have been approved by 4 of the 6 and I am in a grade A signal area. Never give up. I am waiting for CBS and FOX but they have denied me 3 times. I will keep trying though. PBS and CW were grated due to no affiliate here and NBC as well as ABC just granted it so I am not complaining. They are SD but I get east and west coasts. I keep hoping that CBS and FOX will get tired of seeing my name and grant it. If not I will get an outdoor antenna soon.

One thing I don't like....Directv has not been able to come to terms with the ABC affiliate for HD service in the Cedar Rapids-Iowa City-Waterloo Market. Directv does have their SD feed.
I cannot get the HD signal OTA and the station refuses to grant a waiver because I get their SD broadcast. Seems like a crock.

What do the grades mean? Do you have a better chance with a lower grade?

The lower the grade the weaker the signal should be (although some people question the method used to determine your grade). The lower the grade the more likely you are to get a waiver.

For example my ABC and FOX "locals" are out of Pittsburgh which is an hour to 1 1/2 hrs away. I was given these DNS channels SD and HD with no waiver because of signal strength.

My CBS and NBC are grade A. Both have given me SD waivers but neither will give me HD waivers. I can get the NBC HD OTA so i'm not too worried about NBC.

The CBS has gone so far as to get the FCC to block singal strength tests (which would prove I can't get a CBS signal with an antenna) because the are transmitting at a low power due to their attempt to transition to digital.

Maybe once the station goes full power you will be able to get it with your antenna. A test now really would be meaningless. The difference at full power can be quite dramatic.

Got my FOX due to it being low power. Still waiting on my CBS .

Oh I fully expect to get CBS OTA once they go to full power in Februrary.

My mention of the FCC block re: signal strength tests was meant to illustrate how far that particular station, WTRF-7, has gone to prevent people from getting DNS service.

As far as I know they dont have a choice. I got paper work to fill out for a test if I want. I called some companies here that do the tests and what they told me vs what the General Manager of CBS told me was alot different. They use a 20 foot pole to see what signal they need to pull through. That being said the local affiliates dont really care about customers. They dont care if you would need a large directional antenna, or if you live somewhere you can not put up an antenna or if you live near a airpot. The local CBS and FOX here know my situation and just say I need to have a site test. I am pretty sure I could get thir signal with a large directional antenna but dont want to go through the hassel for just 2 stations.
