Does anyone know if I have the Slimline 5 Dish with a direct feed going into my HR-21 and I have a SWS8WB-P 8 way spiltter that I can run the direct feed into the spillter and get 2 good outputs to run into the HR-21 without losing the HD Channels? Thanks so much for any help!

:welcome_s to DBStalk! I don't think that will work. I think you'll need a WB68 or SWM-8 multiswitch.

is this a new install? do you presently have only 1 line running to the dvr?
wondering if you have a swm dish.
easiest way to tell is how many pieces of coax come out of the dish itself.

A "standard" Slimline dish has four outputs and these can't be "split" but can be used with a Zinwell WB68 multi-switch to have eight outputs.
A "SWM" LNB [on Slimline] will have only one output and can be split, but the HR21 wouldn't need two inputs, as with this setup, both tuners work off one cable. . This will have a power inserter on the one line, so if you don't have/see it, then you don't have one.

It's not a new install, I have only one line running into the DVR because that is all that's available downstairs in the basement where I am needing it. It's the Standard Slimeline and The line that's going to the unit is direct from the Dish into the DVR right now that's why I was wondering if I could use just this lesser Spiltter to give me the 2 I am wanting to record the show while watching another one.

Sorry, but splitting the line won't work properly. You need to pull a second coax, or convert to SWM technology.

yup, no simple work around unfortunately.
fwiw, if you do decide to self convert to SWM there is a plethora of info here and some extremely knowledgeable and helpful people here. they were a huge boon to me when I went from the au9s to an swm-8 setup.

Actually I have an SWM LNB that I can use the only problem is that one of my receivers isn't able to use it so they I am down a Reciever.

I think swm-8 is only swm that would work. could be wrong though, it does happen a lot lately :)

So, you current configuration is a SlimLine 5LNB dish, and HR21 and a legacy receiver? If so, here are your options to get the 2md tuner on the HR21 active:

1. Run another cable from the dish to the HR21
2. Install SWM8 (actually, a SWM5 would work, too but why limit yourself?) It will support the legacy receivers and allow both tuners on the HR21 to work only one cable connection.
3. Replace the LNB with a SWM LNB, and also replace the legacy receiver with a SWM-compatible one.

None of these are going to be inexpensive, but that’s what it will take. If you already have the SWM LNB, you might contact D* to see what it would take to upgrade your legacy receiver. In fact, you might be able to get a deal on another HD-DVR for about the same price as buying a SWM8 or having another cable run.

+1 This would be my suggestion. If you have the SWM Lnb just lying around and you're not using it, I would install that thing and call D* to see what they would offer......if you're a customer in good standing I would be surprised if they didn't try to accommodate you in some way, especially if you'd be willing to renew your programming commitment.
