That's what I'm talkin about........... :-) :-) :-)
I'm one of those happy Boise folks, does this mean we have to reset our season passes to start using locals off satellite? My antenna reception is pretty good, but CBS flakes out on me every now and then for a few seconds. Plus it would be nice to use the D* locals to take up less space on the DVR.

Yes, you will have to reset any series links (all of you) if you want to record from the SAT vs. OTA. I also believe that you will need to reset your series links if you want to record on HD vs. SD (but that will be easier to spot the difference :) )

Another plus is you will use far less drive space for your recordings.

Yes figures this would happen the day after I bought a 1 terabyte HD and the Antec enclosure and hooked it up to my HR-21 last night.
I had gotten tired of running out of space from OTA recordings and figured I just needed to upgrade then the news today that my Locals were going to be on D* starting Thursday go figure.
I am not complaining for my HR-21 is now alot quieter and runinng alot cooler.
Any updates Satelliteracer about current HD LIL markets that may soon see PBS or CW HD stations added?

I would break out my Festivus pole as well, but it is currently in my attic holding up my OTA antenna! ;)

I agree.. being larger in square miles.. people.. etc.. Not sure how they came up with the crappy DMA size for us.. (twin cities is 90% of the state.. cannot get them OTA from a decent part of their DMA area).. Heck.. even Mankato and the area is the size of the north half of Rochester (people wise) and they have their locals in HD..
Need to smack the DMA people around :)

If you're in NE Ark.....I'm guessing you're in Jonesboro. Hardly one of the largest cities in Arkansas.
The population figures for the 3 markets in Arkansas:
*EDIT* 1st figure is the Combined Statistical Area Population / 2nd figure is the actual DMA "TV Homes" figure from the 08/09 DMA Rankings:
Little Rock - 841,326 / 567,060 (DMA#56)
Fort Smith / Fayetteville, AR - 724,532 / 297,020 (DMA#100)

We recieved the HD locals on 9/22/08 and I no longer need the 72.5 dish. I exspected to pay for the removal but DirecTV also said it was up to me to call a sat. install company and schedule the removal. So unless you have more pull than me you are on your own. I'm not in any hurry to have the dish removed now and with the LNB I'm not sure the garbage people will pick it up?? Can I turn it horizontal and use it for a bird bath so any other ideas?

Congrats to those who are scheduled to get some additions :). Is there any word on the next national additions? P.S. Don't lose them O.T.A.'s if you're looking for more than the BIG 4 or 6 depending what's offered where you live by D*TV. I can only get my PBS station in HD via my OTA, and even that is a task at times :nono:.

No. For the next week at least, none of the content on either KTTW -17 shows HD programming, including prime time, and most importantly, the Viking game.

All that means is the HD flag wasn't on in the guide data. You can be pretty sure it's it's HD if the guide says so, but the reverse isn't necessarily true. I watched the Mavericks game last night on local channel 21. The guide didn't say it was HD, but it was.

So you can answer my qyestion then is KNIN in the HD locals lineup? Because when I go to Directv.com it says unavailable still. I don't care if the local PBS network is but no CW in HD would force me to keep my OTA.

According to DirecTV's online guide for Boise (http://www.directv.com/DTVAPP/epg/theGuide.jsp?d=310&h=19&tz=e&z=83702&fl=_d&x=&y=) it looks like the following stations will be in HD:
KBCI - CBS (ch 2)
KAID - PBS (ch 4)
KIVI - ABC (ch 6)
KTVB - NBC (ch 7)
KNIN - CW (ch 9)
KTRV - FOX (ch 12)
KKJB - IND (ch 39)
However, I have my doubts about KKJB - their Wikipedia page says they will flash cut to digital on the conversion day. So unless they have a fiber link to DirecTV - I doubt they will be in HD.

I just meant I wish I could get the Memphis Locals, but KAIT most likely prevents that. I get a few channels in HD from Directv, including Fox and NBC from NY, and CBS in SD, I just hope this digital transition will help me be able to pick up more channels out of Memphis. KPBI channel 34, Eureka Spgs. is still analog only (at least OTA). They will flash cut to digital 34 sometime between now & 2/17/09.

Not sure why we are being directed to the User control panel to discuss but that is where the link takes you. This info is posted there also. This information is in reference to the Sioux Falls HD locals that were launched this morning.
The following is listed on the D* site guide and it is also listed this way when setting up favorites:

13 KSFY SD
17 KTTW SD

The question is is one of the 17s, 20s, and 23s supposed to be HD? One would think so.

Yes, I use an antenna, I usually get Channel 24(ABC) and Channel 30(CW) in HD pretty easily out of Memphis, but the rest of the channels are a crapshoot? Sometimes I can get WREG(CBS) and WMC(NBC) in HD, but NBC is really hard to pick up good. I'd like to be able to pick up WPXX(My) for the wrestling on Fridays, but that's the same as NBC. I just don't understand why we can't receive them on Directv? Cause in Trumann, about 15 miles from here they can get them on Directv, I guess it's mainly cause were a DMA here, I don't know? The south end of Texas has an impressive and rapidly growing cluster of small cities from Palmview at the West to South Padre Island at the east. Well over half a million people are spread across cities like McAllen, Edinburg, Harlingen, Mission, Pharr, San Juan, Welasco, San Benito as well as Brownsville. Lots of other small towns are filling in all those areas with urban growth.

Try putting your address in at www.antennaweb.org. It will give you an idea of what you can get.
We get nothing here.... Ages ago, we had a 60' tower to grab just two signals from Shreveport. When DirecTV first came out, we thought we had died and gone to Heaven. The tower came down. Knew nothing about HD coming.
Anyway, antennaweb's results are this, not surprising: "There are no stations predicted to serve this location."
All four locals here in the Harlingen - Brownsville area coming in nice, so far. All in HD.
XRIO (2) - FOX
KGBT (4) - CBS
KRGV (5) -ABC
KVEO (23) - NBC

How long did it take after your HD locals were launched to lose your DNS channels?
Anyone??????????
How long did it take after your HD locals were launched to lose your DNS channels? It took us about 6 weeks. YMMV.
You should get an automated phone call telling you when they will be shutoff.
... antennaweb's results are this, not surprising: "There are no stations predicted to serve this location."Go back and add "60 feet" in the antenna height options at the bottom of the address entry page.
Traverse City WGTU ABC 29 is broadcasting in 480 this evening.
