Since we love to beat a dead horse here, here is a link about the new Corel WP Office 11.

Seems to have nice features...But it looks like only saving grace is that Dell and other vendors are offering it as the cheapest Suite when buying a new PC (v10 was $15 less then MS Works when buying a Dell) and the Liscensing as very liberal compared to MS (I guess they have to be?)

Still, I have to ask why? :D

Why? I think it was David Becker who in a review tested WordPerfect 11 head to head against the latest Office and it cme out on top. Of course being better than MS software usually isn't enough.

In general I've always liked WordPerfect's features much more than Words. For some reason it has always been more intuitive for me to use.

However version 10 had so many bugs I finally had to switch. I'll give WP11 a shot though.

The feature that I have always appreciated about WordPerfect is the "reveal codes."

OK Bogy, but you have to admit the rest of the suite is crap. Only WordPerfect is able to stand up to MS Office let alone OpenOffice (http://www.openoffice.org).

No I don't. :D
For one example, Presentations is a better program, easier to use than Powerpoint. Plus the fact that I'm still bummed over the fact that instead of my kids, (and wife) being able to use our $35 Academic version of Corel, I had to shell out a couple hundred bucks for Office. :( Just so they could use Powerpoint.

Quattro Pro was great in its day, I have barely touched a spreadsheet in 10 years so I can't say which one is better now, but I'd find it hard to believe that Excel it that much superior to Quattro Pro to consider Quattro Pro crap.

Oh you can't be serious. Powerpoint is so much more robust than Presentations. Powerpoint handles master slides and other features much better than Presentations. Also you can't share the files with anyone because no one uses it.

From an analyst standpoint Quattro Pro is unable to handle Pivot Tables as well as Excel. I cannot run my reports using Quatro Pro at all.

The problem with this suite is that its more akin to Microsoft Works than Microsoft Office in features and price. Sure you can use this for work at home, but for professional analysis and presentations, Corel's suite isn't up to par.

Speaking as someone who regularly wrote and rewrote his own quick and dirty word processor in 6502 assembly before writing high school reports, and who's been exposed(like flu, only worse) to Word(im)Perfect and othe such supposed (non)wonders that will supposedly stack up to MS, like OS/2("WTF is OS/2?" I hear people say to this day)...

Microsoft Office WINS! If I never use WP ever again, I'll be happy. Word, Excel, Powerpoint, Access, etc., all act similar to each other without interruption, the integrate into Windows and Outlook and Outlook Express wonderfully, while none of the alternatives are very well integrated at all much less into other apps of other companies.

And given Microsoft's copious technical programming information in print and online, as well as the excellent development suite, it IS NOT that hard to do a good job of integration. But in single minded determination not to do anything like Microsoft, some third parties make their products unusable for me.
