View Full Version : Can I have two HRs with only one network connection?

I have a HR20-100 hooked up to my hardwired network. That has worked fine for 18 months, I can do remote scheduling and everything else.
I just added a HR22-100 to this same location. I thought I could hook the network cable to the second port on the back of the HR20-100, but that does not work.
Do I have to have a second run to my router? Or is there a way I can make it work with just the one network port? I don't want to go wireless.

hook to the hr22 first then run to the hr20.
the hr20 does not pass through, the hr22 is supposed too.
you can run the hr20 off of the top ethernet port of the hr22

btw, you do not need the network connectivity for the remote scheduling. That is done via satellite.

Take the cable going to the router.
Plug it into Port 1 of the HR22.
Plug another cable into Port 2 of the HR22.
Plug the other cable end into Port 1 of the HR20.
Let it sit for a minute or two, press and hold info button on HR20 for 3 seconds. Move to the test tab, do a system test to verify the network is up and running.
This is assuming you have a DHCP address avaliable for the equipment. Have fun!

It's actually the bottom port. Port 1 is on the top, 2 is on the bottom. That is how mine is at least ;)

Thanks for the quick replies to my question!
I hooked my network connection to the #1 port on the HR22 and then plugged a cable from the #2 port on the HR22 into the HR20. Then re-ran the automatic set up on both HRs and it tests good.

Dumb Question Department:
I am in a similar situation. I have three HR20 DVR's in the same room as my router but only have two router ports available. My HR20-700 has one ethernet port while the two HR20-100's have two ethernet ports.
Both HR20-100's are hardwired to the router but the HR20-700 is not due to a lack of router ports. Can I connect the HR20-700 to port #2 of either HR20-100 to gain internet access or am I screwed because the HR20 series does support port forwarding?
Thanks.

It would seem you need to invest in an ethernet switch to expand the ports from the router.
