I have a dishplayer 7200 upgraded with a 30gb hd. I had the unit unplugged for one week while I was away in Vegas. Anyway I come home, plug the POS thing in and all it wants to do is dial webtv. I tried the 32768 reset code, but it still wants to dial. Any ideas?

Check the hard drive. Try putting the old one back in.

I can't put the old drive in because it crashed a year ago. Seems like my new drive has crashed -- but I hope not.

usually when it tries calling into WebTV its because of a hard drive problem. So again I would check there first.

DP Phone Home :-D
This happened a few months ago on my dishplayer. I ended up unplugging the satellite connection, powered up, did a switch check, powered off, re-attached satellite connection, powered up, switch checked, then things were back to normal.

I can't get it to do anything but "phone home." Ughhh.

Are you stopping it, or is it failing to complete the call. If you are stopping the call, let it go through. Otherwise, as Scott has said, this has usually been a sign of a failing HD. The good news is that the DP should be fine, you'll just need to go out and buy a new HD. At least now you can slap in a 100GB or bigger!
One of my DP's used to do this every few months. It was NEVER the HD. Pulling the power and smart card a few times seemed to finally fix it.
Now, a failing drive would cause the same thing. But I've seen enough posts on here and DbsForums to see the trend that some DP's like to do this even when everything is 'ok'. So, worth double checking before going out and buying a new drive.

Dishplayers will give a false hard drive failure indicator. Turn the Displayer off. Do options 411--this will show hardware failure (your two versions will have the same number.) Unplug the dishplayer. wait a few seconds and plug back in. If Dishplayer is off, do another option 411--it should show the corrected versions---2 different numbers. and you're back in business

Thanks, I'll try to bring the monster back to life. Question, the green light flashes, then stops, then starts flashing again. Any thoughts?

You may have the corrupted guide download from the weekend. Call E* to have them talk you through the process to get you up and running again.
When it tries to say that it is dialing WebTV DO NOT CALL E* FIRST. Power down (hopefully you have it on a powerstrip - OR unplug it for a minute), and then plug it back in again. I have had this glitch a dozen times and the unplugging clears the errr every time so far.

Still rebooting! So, I pulled the Maxtor drive out and put in my computer, it comes up with an error code. I go on the maxtor web site and be entering that error the code Maxtor will send me a new dirve, all I have to do is return the old drive when the new one arrives. Seems like a good deal, as long as I can get my dishplayer working again.
Can you still down the software by phone in thirty minutes?
