My old Dishnet 4700 (which periodically gets moved from room to room) recently powered up w/quite a few channels missing (seemed random, definitely not sequential). A reboot (cord/card) restored all channels, but w/audio only (black screen). A subsequent reboot produced no audio, no video. Now after restarting, audio is dead for a minute or two, then returns (or immediately if IRD is cycled off/on a time or two).
Charlie's "techs" (who've asked me to press non-existent buttons on the front panel, among other things) have been useless. Tomorrow I'll try to reach one of the "advanced techs." My 3700 is still going strong (after being RA'd under warranty awhile back).
Is this thing fried? Any chance clearing the NVRAM(?) or forcing a software download would do anything? (I tried the "force" procedure, but I can't remember if the menu hierarchy is the same between 3700/4700---trying to do it "blind" on the 4700---anyway, no change). I'm sure "professional" repair probably would exceed it's value.
Incidentally, I did order a 508 for $149 (thanks to this board!)---offer is thru 4/30---might get another.
TIA,
Tim
