View Full Version : HELP!!! I'm a MORON!
No really I'm not a moron, but have some questions that perhaps have already been answered, but figured I'd ask here anyway.
Cable TV Subscriber here, HATING the video artifacts I get with HD Cable, and looking to the DBS alternative.
The house is only two years old, and all coax is RG6 Quad shield, Home Run. I currently use a Channel Vision structured wiring splitter (which I assume will go away).
I'd like to go the with AUS-9 Slim and need (2) HD DVR Receivers for HD TV's in the house.
Can I send signals from the Dish through some sort of switch using single RG6 cables home run through the house, then use diplexers to break out the needed lines?
Please help. Looking for absolute best equipment, cleanest signal, etc....what are your recommendations?

Using a SWMline dish would be what you are looking for. 1 coax to each HDDVR will run BOTH tuners.

What else is needed besides the dish itself? Diplexers, switches?

SAT rated splitter would be all. With a SWMLine dish, there is a single coax that can be split to feed your receivers just like cable.

If you're only wanting 2 HD-DVR's....then nothing but the spitter that VOS mentioned above. You would be good to go. No more splitters or switches....IF you don't want OTA.
Do you want to use OTA?

Will need a power inserter somewhere too..

OTA, meaning over the air broadcasts? Aren't local channels available with service? I live in the BOONIES.

Can I locate the power inserter where I locate the SAT splitter. I have a structured media cabinet with available power if need be.

Does the SWM switch come with the DIRECTV AU9-S-SWM, or is it a separate purchase?

What ZIP do you live in. I don't know for sure if you have your locals in HD or not. You probably do......someone around here can provide that information for you....
What is my best bet for the HD DVR Receiver. I'd also like to not have a contract, so if I were to go to E B A Y and purchase a late model DVR, would I still need a contract/lease. I think I saw the 21Pro didn't require a lease. Do any of the late models have any video problems? Will be connecting via HDMI to a Panasonic Plasma.

I would avoid Ebay. There may be charges tied to the previous owner that you would have to pay before they activate. Almost any receiver you obtain now would be a lease....more than likely. I would call DirecTV and give them the IRD to make sure it's clean.
After reading your post below...if it is a Pro model...then yes you would own it.
