View Full Version : Mix Channels Tune to SD???
When tuned to the News or Sports MIX channels, why does it tune to the SD version when selecting the channel from within the box?
Even with the SD channels hidden in the guide it will still tune to them.
Also, as a second question, what are the plans to offer "Local on the 8s" in HD and the RED button to pull up Weather INTERACTIVE through Weather HD?

there is almost no difference between HD and SD when in Mix mode. that is why the feeds are SD. 2nd Question, there are no plans as such to have the local on the 8s in HD for a while. same for red button

I think the question is why doesn't the channel default to the HD version when you select one of them from the mix channel to tune to.

A glitch in the tune routine. it is programmed to tune to the channel feed that is showing in the box, which is the SD version. It needs to be fixed
If you enter 102-1 instead of 102, you'll get the HD version, I think.

that may indeed be correct, however, with the mix channels, you highlight a channel on the screen and press select rather than enter numbers.
(that is one of the reasons that David is angry)

What receiver do you have?
I know the HR20 and HR21 will tune the HD channels. The HR23 has this glitch, not sure about the HR22 or the Hx's.

If it works like Sunday Ticket, the HD feeds of the mix ONLY go to the HD Channels, and the SD Mix Channel should default to the SD mix.
I only use the mix channels for Sunday ticket, but I suspect that they would all work the same.
EDIT
Just tried it and there is no -1 for the mix channels. And, if I go from 102 to CNN, I get HD... if I go from 102 to Fox, I get SD... have to re-enter the channel to get HD.
Just wanted to clarify this post.

Yeah, I have the HR22 and the H21.
H21 is connected to a 32" SD TV... my HR22 to my Sammy HDTV.
Yes, my question was aimed at why the unit would tune to the SD version of the channel instead of the HD version. I like using these mix channels... and when I want to tune to say Fox News from this news mix, it goes to FoxNews SD from selecting that channel with the select button (yellow box on screen). If you have an HDTV and you have the SD channels removed from the guide, it should tune to the HD channels.
So this doesnt happen with the HR20 and 21? This is indeed weird. A bit of a pain. I dont mind it so much on the HR21... because its not currently connected to a HDtv. But that could change in the future.

When I select fox news Channel 360 while in news mix, i.e. move yellow selector box over fox news and press select the screen flashes for a second on fox news, but then goes back to news mix channel and highlights CNN, the first channel listed top left of screen.
An apparent glitch, unless D is slanted toward the left vs Fox on the right....
Any advice?
Thanks

They haven't updated for fox yet... the channels new, and they need to do that...
As for the weather channel, someone on here posted a while ago they were testing hd overlays somewhere in the north east at a cable company... hopfully it all goes well and well see it sometime next year...

This is a known issue, where some models map properly and some don't. Our friends at DIRECTV are working on it.
For the record:
My HR20-700s map properly.
My HR21-200 maps properly.
My HR23-700 does not map properly.

what about HR22's?
