View Full Version : Arrrggghhhh... Cartoon Network scheduling

Sigh... I hate this....
It seems that I'm this board's resident otaku, but still...
.hack//SIGN is supposed to start at 9 PM. However, when my PVR kicked in at 8:57 PM, they were halfway through the opening credits. Thank goodness I'm collecting the series on DVD. But still, it's irritating. (Added) Okay, the show ends at 9:22. As far as I know, they're not editing the show. And now, they're starting Gundam 0080 at 9:26 PM.
This isn't first time for the Toonami and Adult swim. G Gundam and Tenchi Muyo have been started off schedule before, and G Gundam, near the end of the first run, did a surprise double-episode that was totally unannounced.

I agree with your conclusion, if not your premise. [that is, I didn't catch .hack//SIGN, although I think I wanted to, and just missed it.
Since I got my PVR, I've been recording Futurama [which is on Sun-Thursday, and there's no schedule for that, so I end up with one episode of the New Scooby Doo or something on my PVR.] I was out of town week before last, and stayed up late watching Futurama and started enjoying Home Movies. So I got home and set up the PVR to start recording that. I get one week's worth of episodes, then lo and behold they dump it for that stupid [IMHO] Family Guy [which coincidentally just came out on DVD, and Cartoon's playing of Futurama steered me away from buying Futurama on DVD.]
And the majority of Simpsons that are being replayed in syndication twice a day, that I'm PVR'ing, are from the last three seasons, and I've seen each of them at least three times. So my PVR will get a break, at least till I find something else that's on regularly enough for me to record it. Luckily I've still got about 5 hours of Tylor on DVD, and many other DVD's, to get me through till then.
And to widen the thread a bit: it seems that the PVR clock, which I assume it gets from the satellite, is not in sync with the networks clock, so in order for me to get the beginning of anything, I have to start it 1 minute early. I haven't noticed a difference as egregious as the one in your example, Z'Loth, but it's still annoying. Is there any way to correct or manually sync the PVR/reciever clock?

It's not the clocks on the receivers that is the problem. The receivers receive the time signal from the Network Operations room on Wyoming, who, in turn, receive it from a time service akin to the time on GPS or an atomic clock.
No, this is the networks fault.

Ah, ok....we are discussing two slightly different issues. For TOON to start something that early, they definitely need to check their clocks. With my scenario, it seems like unless I hit 'start 1 minute early', I miss some of *everything* [granted, sometimes just the initial credits/theme song, but still.] So I'm not sure whose clock is wrong, but someone's definitely is.

Well, this week, they started .hack//SIGN at 8:59 PM instead of 8:56 PM.
