Dear DISH Network® Retailer,

We have exciting news for our Spanish-language programming subscribers! On November 19, 2008, DISH Network will launch a new programming package specifically designed for customers of Mexican descent – DishMEXICO. For only $19.99 per month, DishMEXICO subscribers may enjoy more than 50 Spanish-language channels that cater to Mexican culture and interests, with a wide variety of content such as sports, news, movies, music, and children’s programming.

With the option to receive local network programming (where available) and Playboy en Español at no additional charge, DishMEXICO may be a great entry-level package for customers looking for high-quality, Spanish-language programming at an economical price. The diverse channel lineup features popular networks such as Azteca America, Galavision, TeleFormula, and Telefutura.

CAUTION: Not an official website of DISH Network ... it is a reseller.
(Dish Systems is an authorized independent contractor retailer of DISH Network L.L.C.)

Based on the reseller's website, it looks like a subset of DishLATINO (similar to the "welcome" packages DISH added on the English side of their programming).

Like the "welcome" packages it seems that they don't have DishMEXICO on dishnetwork.com. :(

What Transpnder will be used for DBS Mexico?

MPEG 2 or MPEG 4?

I read there only available for US residents??? in Mexico or US?

Rafael,

I think that some people are getting the DishMexico package confused with DBS Mexician service. DishMexico is for U.S. residents and will be offered from the current satellites (119 and 110, various transponders). All channels are MPEG2.

The DBS Mexican service will be offered (when approved) from the 77 degree satellite, mainly from Echostar 4 but possibly from Echostar 8 also. It will be available in Mexico, NOT to U.S. residents. Echostar 8 (at 77 degrees) will be used for U.S. locals (HD and SD, all in MPEG4). Echostar 8 is currently testing. There are four live transponders on that satellite but no channels are available to the public right now.

I hope that clears up the confusion.

Anyone else think its weird that their press release refers to Univision and others as "Mexican" networks when they are clearly based in the U.S.? Makes it seem like they don't know anything about the channels they carry.

Makes it seem like they don't know anything about the channels they carry. It's Dish Network, the folks who focus on marketing products without squandering alot of money on research or testing. Why would they need to know anything?

Yeah I was being sarcastic.

Im trying to figure out why Direct unveils new local HD weekly but Nothing from Dish.

Look at the front page of this site....... every wednesday it seems direct gives their customers 4, 6 even more local HD markets.

Dish MAY, MAY add 4 a month.

Thats why I said 3 months to go. Then I am gone.

Just a year? DISH has been doing Spanish for a lot longer than that. This is just a new repackaging of DISH Latino at a low price.

Just a year? DISH has been doing Spanish for a lot longer than that. This is just a new repackaging of DISH Latino at a low price.Which, of course, raises the curious question of why call it "DishMEXICO"? Mexico is a sovereign nation in which the common language spoken is Spanish. United States citizens with a Mexican heritage are frequently classified by the government and by others who like to classify folks for marketing purposes as belonging to a group called "hispanic", and sometimes "latino" has been used. The common thread is the common language. But "DishMEXICO" sounds like a Dish Network operation in Mexico.

I really think someone at Dish Network marketing is really stupid.

I would have not used the name that they used either. It IS going to get confused with the Mexican DBS service.

I OFTEN wonder why marketing people (in a LOT of companies) make the decisions they do. It seems like common sense is sometimes in short supply in marketing.

On the official dishnetwork site it states that the public interest channels like nasa, link. documentary, cspan, naus, rdtv and research are part of the dishmexico package.Strange since I don't get them on dishlatino basico which costs $8 more per month .Perhaps I should downgrade to dishmexico!! I was also under the impression that there was a ruling that public interest channels had to be part of all the dish packages.Spoke to a csr who did not have a clear answer.
Would appreciate any information on this situation

I don't know what the exact rules are but it might help to send an email to ceo@echostar.com and ask them to clarify the rules or look into the problem.

Hmmm. Well, as it turns out in the press in Mexico Charlie does indeed have "Dish México" although that may not be the way the package is named. So with the "DishMEXICO" package, anyone who may spend time in both countries will run into confusion as I expected.:nono2:

EDIT: See this thread (http://www.dbstalk.com/showthread.php?p=1897428#post1897428).
