I have D*tv in Fort Wayne and am looking to go the HD route now that the locals are offered in HD. I was wondering how they are looking for those of you that started receiving them today.
Additionally, any advice on how I should approach customer service for a HD DVR deal would be appreciated.
Thank you

The new HD locals look fantastic. I personally cannot tell the difference between the DirecTV HD feeds and my OTA feeds. Someone with a well-trained eye or better overall vision might be able to notice a difference, but I can't.
As far as an HD/DVR upgrade...
If you are out of contract, I would approach the situation that DishNetwork has offered you several free upgrades to change providers.
If you are in contract, you should still be able to upgrade for $99 or less, but the threat of cancelling doesn't hold as much weight.
Good Luck!!

Anyone know if you should be able to receive the new Fort Wayne locals on a SD DVR without the 72.5 dish? Obviously they wont be in HD, but maybe a simulcast of the 72.5 SD versions?

Can I tell if I'm in contract on the website?
Thanks.

Anyone know if you should be able to receive the new Fort Wayne locals on a SD DVR without the 72.5 dish?
Requirements for Fort Wayne locals without using the 72.5 dish are:
Slimline Ka/Ku dish with either the SL5 (5 LNB, 99,101,103,110,119) or the new SL3 (3 LNB 99,101,103) LNBs, and an Mpeg4 capable receiver.
Mpeg4 capable receivers are:
DVR- Model R22 (not HD)
HD- Models H20, H21, and H23
HD/DVR- Models HR20, HR21, and the new HR22
All of the above receivers, except the H23, require the B-band converters be attached somewhere in line after the dish/multiswitch.
If your DVR is an R10, R15 or R16, you will still need the 72.5 dish for locals.
Can I tell if I'm in contract on the website?
Thanks.
I do not know.
I think the length of contract is either 18 or 24 months (HD equipment) from the installation date.

I'm in the FWA DMA. Just got my HD locals last week but it appears that the NBC affiliate is not HD. Watching the NFL game tonight, the game is being presented in 4:3 aspect ratio. it "appears" to be HD picture quality (display says 1080i) but the screen is not 16:9. Is this a DTV thing or a WISE-TV deal?

It's a WISE-TV deal, they lost their NBC HD receiver Friday night. They are hoping to be back up Tuesday evening I believe.

yeah thats what they posted on the avs fort wayne page. sucked that we didnt get to see the game in hd but at least the colts won! as far as the hd channels go i also cannot notice a difference in the picture from directv compared to the OTA. i was very happy to see these finally get added. as far as the upgrade, i just upgraded in september to a hd-dvr. i upgraded the previous year in February to the regular hd receiver and in september got my new hd-dvr receiver for free and also got the am-21 for $25. that was when they were doing the customer appreciation thing they had going on and they hooked me up. we were also a 12 year subscriber. dont know what your situation is but call and see what they can offer. if you dont like what you were offered call again later and see if another csr will give you a diff deal or work with you

thanks for the info folks on NBC 33. it does appear that it's been fixed.
Now another question....WFWA PBS does not appear to be HD and programs in the channel guide aren't showing up as HD. Anyone know the scoop on our PBS affiliate?

WFWA was the first station to broadcast HD in Fort Wayne, providing the national PBS HD feed on 39.1. It was very limited programming, but it was amazing. In October, 2005, WFWA decided to stop broadcasting HD and add the three subchannels. They haven't broadcast any HD since.

I am going to call and inquire about what deals they can give me to go HD. I have been a customer for about 14 years. I have seen some good deals for Black Friday already on TV's. One question I have is how important is this 120hz? I want to go 1080p, but 120hz is another step up in price.
Thanks

oscar, no expert here but my understanding is that the 120hz refresh rate is important for LCD to help any on-screen motion look smoother. This would be important for sports and video games.

There seem to be many more plasmas on the market now than LCD. Is LCD the way to go? I do watch a lot of sports. Thanks for the advice.
Additional question is, if I have a slimline dish already, do I need installer, if I get an HD-DVR?

Anyone know how DirecTV is getting the local feeds for Fort Wayne? Direct feed from the stations, OTA?? Just mainly me being curious, as they look spectacular! No discernible difference by me from my OTA receiver.

that's interesting, I see more LCD's being marketed than Plasma.
I think it's a matter of personal preference. LCD's seem brighter to me but Plasma seems to do contrast very well.
