Freezes, acquiring sat, and such on everything but my 721. Wonder whatr caused it? Reebooting was only semi successful, I ended up unpowering the whole thing.

I thought my 721 completely puked on me last night!!
A screen popped up saying "Disk failure." I unplugged the
system for 30 seconds and everything is fine after it rebooted.
Lost all recordings.(sucks) It wouldnt let me do a normal reboot.
Is this a sign of a dying hard drive?

That doesnt sound good, sounds like your HD on its way out. I found my 721s recordings tonight have lots of mini freezes. But the snowbound show is watcheable, and preety good/

I keep saying over and over and over..........Dump E* and cheap charlie and switch to D*. You will never have any problems (Hdvr 2 need I say more....).
my 721 did the failed harddrive thing twice in a row last night. it all started at 8:00pm CST when my system was set to record ABC and HBO (six feet under)..
it puts you in limp mode, then you power cycle it again and it reformats the partitions and reinstalls the OS.. you lose recordings, timers, settings, etc.
anyone else? when did it happen?

I think these guys do have a productive point.... minus the name calling.
How much more can one put up with. It is obvious that Echostar
has no intention on making this thing work.
DUMP those 721's while you can.

I don't understand. Are there bugs? yes.
But in less than a year, there have been at least 3 major software upgrades. The next one in being tested right now.
I don't understand how this leads you to say that "It is obvious that Echostar

Not trying to start a war here, just trying to understand your point of view

It may be more productive than you think.
I ran Dishplayers for three years before finally throwing in the towel. After listening to teething pains about the 501 and the 721, I frankly don't know why people continue to fool with them. and I say that with no disrespect.
Frankly, I didn't get into satellite to play download roulette. I got into it to watch television with a reliable, decent picture. I wanted to like Dish. I really, really, did.
A year later, I still don't like doing business with Microsoft (UTV) and General Motors (coming soon, the son of Satan, Rupert Murdoch!) But the equipment works, every single day. So they get my money and Dish gets my best regards. End of story.
I think it was VERY productive advice. There are problems with EVERY E* PVR. Sure, there are software "upgrades", but they still, as of this late date (especially the 501/508) they still can't get it right.
People say that they only have occassional problems, but since I switched, I have no problems whatsoever. I too prefer Dish programming, but I much prefer not to have to think about my hardware AT ALL. My family even more so. I had a heck of a time walking my wife through reset procedures when I was out of town.
I was tired of hearing my 3 and 5 year old kids cry when their favorite shows were mysteriously deleted. I no longer have to suffer through that "daddy is flawed" experience, since I've now taken care of business and obtained equipment that is reliable and professional. Sure, there are a few channels I miss, and I'm paying $1 more each month. But for the piece of mind, its well worth it. THIS father is not a cheapskate . . .
