I'm having a wierd problem. I have an HR20-100 with a Slimline 5 dish. If I look at my signal strengths for Sat 101, I have really good number for all transponders for Tuner 1. Usually between 95 and 100, some a little lower, not much. However, on Tuner 2, I get all 0's for the top row(transponders 1-8). This prevents me from watching channel 614 or 616, both SD channels if I'm on tuner 1 but they work fine on tuner 2. I tried switching the wires for tuner 1 and tuner 2 and expected to see that tuner 1 would now be bad but tuner 2 still remains the bad one. I've restarted the box a few times with no luck.

Any ideas? I don't think this could be a problem with my dish, Is it something I could fix with the receiver or is it a hardware problem. This is my only HD receiver so I have nothing else to go by. The SD DVR seems to get all good signals on Sat 101 for both tuners.

Sounds like a bad tuner 2. You may need a replacement HR*.

When you swapped the cables on the back of the DVR, did you also swap the B-Band Converter (BBC) modules? Try swapping with and without swapping the BBCs just in case one of them is defective.

And is it only the 101º satellite signals showing this problem?

Had weird problems with my R20 as well (extreme pixelation on some SD channels; audio but no video on HD; SDs showing up but not HDs; vice versa) and kept having to reset it. Finally, as I was resetting it yet again this morning, it showed a Tuner 2 failure on the system rebuild. I have a service call set up for Saturday, but I think it's the tuner.

This may be a defect in the product. but I like the model because you can connect an antenna directly to the receiver for local OTA HD. (DirecTV in its infinite wisdom doesn't furnish all the HD channels in the Des Moines area.) However, if there is a problem with the model, I don't want to replace the defective receiver with one that's just going to exhibit the same problem down the road. Any suggestions?

I swapped with and without swapping the bbcs. it's always tuner 2 and yeah, it's just sat 101 which i why I don't know if i think it's the receiver. why would it only have problems with some transponders of one sat on one tuner?

I'm moving this to the HD DVR forum.

Sure sounds like the HR.

Because a bad tuner can do funny stuff! If you have eliminated bad coax and bad BBCs....bad tuner.

try re running your sat setup. i had the same problem. it was fixed when i installed the swm lnb.

Had the same thing on my HR 20-700 & my new HR 22-100 , it turned out it was a bad connector on the LNB .

Also, try selecting a "different" satellite/switch configuration, save that, then come back and change it to the "right" configuration. Sometimes this can wakeup things.
