Hi all,
Wanna start off by saying mine is not a regular setup. I am in Costa Rica so we are using huge antennas/dishes made here to catch the signal on satellite 119.
Outside of that, everything is pretty much the same as any other setup (normal receivers with regular dish account)
I was using VIP622 and decided to get VIP722 for a new TV. Now I have put the VIP722 in the exact same spot as where the VIP622 was and attached all the same cables to it. However, the VIP722 shows no signal! The other strange thing I've noticed with the 722 is that in the "installation" menu where you go to check signal strength the transponders start from 11 instead of 1.
Some guy told me the 722 has no signal because it is not compatible with the device on the end of the antenna (I do not remember what it's called)
Could someone please tell me what the problem is? I am sure it is something obvious but I have no clue!

That guy is full of BS. Do you use separate cables to two tuner setup or attempt use Dish Separator ?

What you are seeing is normal until you do a check switch and it completes a software download.

Sorry, but receivers doesn't work that way.
You must get a signal first, enough for make a lock to it; then, if on the sat a Home transponder have good signal, then the receiver with outdated FW will accept current one.

Doesn't a check-switch have to take place before anything will come in at all? Otherwise the receiver has no idea what it's connected to.

Nope, not necessary - the receiver by default ( if you did your cabling correct - some LNBF have different assignment for outputs ) will get 119W signal and load current FW; often factory FW cannot recognize modern DPP or DP configurations.

Yes they do. Every 722 that I have installed for an Eastern Arc has come up with no signal until I do a switch check. I align the dish with my meter and then I hook up the receiver. When I go to the install screen there is no signal (even though I know it is there) and it does not show up until I do a check switch. I don't make this stuff up. Hopefully things will change before I do the next one.

Oh, you didn't mention you did new setups for EA.
I know for sure 119W is OK in normal installs not EA, didn't have experience when no main core sats available.
Totally different game, I see.
Back to OP question - he is targeting 119W so my notes applicable here. ;)
He need to check 119W Home transponder #19, lock on it first.

Thank you all. "Check switch" did the trick. That is apparently ABSOLUTELY required when connecting a new receiver.

Then please recheck all connection in your setup. Do you have a switch ? Is 119W connected to port#1 ? Etc.
Can you post that switch matrix screen-shot ?

There isn't any need to recheck any connections. Everything is working fine now.
119W is connected to port #1.
It is simple. You must do "check switch" when you get a new receiver for it to get a signal....

Its not quite a must, but it is the proper thing to do.

Additional question - is your switch matrix changed after you did last check ?

Nope. Like I said, I saw no signal until I hit check switch. Once I did, I saw signal and now it is working perfectly...

It's a must if you want it to work :D

Not always. But it does tend to speed things up a lot, and in some cases yes it is a must.
