View Full Version : France proposes to lift UN sanctions on Iraq
An unexpected move coming from France. This, along with the call from french president Jacques Chirac to George W. Bush on April 14th says to me that France is trying to repair the damage in the relations with the U.S. But don't forget that Chirac will have to meet face to face with George Bush within six weeks in the G7 meeting.

We live in interesting times. I have read that travel to France from the US has fallen way off, and that the business people are complaining.
Is France about to abandon the High Ideals that lead them to oppose the war for a few pathetic American tourist dollars?
C'est dommage. Maybe there are a few capitalists left in France. Viva la guerre!

Naw, the US probably showed some documents to France that "might fall in to the media's hands" if France doesn't go along with the dropping of the sanctions.
;)

Halfsek,
You are right. I was giving them too much credit. Thanks for bringing me around.
Look for France to walk away with some lucrative trade agreements with the new Iraqi government. Yep, lastman, It IS all about Capitalism (and oil) but has little to do with the US.
French interests may have been making some backroom deals all along. I would say that France and even Russia may have better inside track with the 'new" Iraq than the USA.
