View Full Version : PVR 721 Dish Elevation mismarked?

Why does my 721 tell me to set my elevation to 29 degrees, but when I look at the markings after my dealer installed it, it shows around 40-something degrees? Are the markings on the mount incorrect?

Is the Dish 500 box checked off on the screen? Dish300 will give different elevations. If Dish 500 is checked off, my guess is that your installer didn't intall the mounting pole plumb.

I've seen some Dish500's made by Channel Master, as well as DirecTV dishes made by them marked 3-4 degrees low. Sure makes it impossible to find the satellite, unless you know that it's mismarked.

The current Winegard manufactured Dish 500's (smooth painted arn, fully threaded top cross bolt, and four holes spaced around the edge of the dish pan) has never, from my experience, been mismarked.

as long as your getting both 119 & 110, your ok, how good is your signal?

Both in the 90s.

Yes, I'm using the Dish 500 setting. I watched the installer and he did use a level, is that all that's required to make it plumb?

On a 721 the signal strength is ok so don't worry about the elevation angle, just enjoy it while it works, and buy the extended warranty no later than your 11th month of ownership so you are covered.

Not sure I was ever offered the extended warranty from Dish. I'm not really a fan of extended warranties (mostly a rip-off, AFAIC) -- are Dish products notorious for breaking down? This is my first dealing with their products.

The Extended Warranty is $1.99/mo. and yes DISH PVRs are noted for hard drive problems.

Not trying to be a smartarse, but can't I just replace the hard drive myself and when the system reboots it will format it automatically? Just curious.

No you can't. There are two kinds of hard drives. Those that have failed and those that will fail. I too am not a fan of extended warranties but for $2 a month and me with a 721 a 508 and a bunch of switches I am going to get the extended warranty.

So you cannot get an extended warranty if you do not purchase one in your 11th or 12th month of service or right around the time your manufacturer's warranty runs out?

no I think you can get it anytime but if you wait til after 12 months I think there is a waiting period before you can file a claim. The waiting period is like 30 days or so. I would reccomend that you get in your 12th month. THat is what I am going to do.

I am planning on adding the extended warranty in July, I have a 721 and SW64, both which are expensive and seem to be prone to problems. I hate buying extended warranties but at $2, in this case I think it's worth it.

The tuners are prone to go bad with the pvr's as well.
