There's always hope. Just no idea of when, if ever, that hope will be fulfilled.

I would suggest A new tv. It really depends on the tv. I have had five different tvs in the last year and philips has volume leveling built in there tvs. The other brands i've had have all had the problem you are having. Right now with the setup i have, The hd channels are actually louder than the sd channels.

I would suggest A new tv.

its the software....example: i burned shows on a dvd pre upgrade and play it on another stereo system....and now when i burn shows on a dvd post upgrade i have to raise the volume way up....again on another system.

new tv....yea right....then i guess all the people that complained about this same problmem need new tvs too:

Well like i said it depends on the brand of your tv! I have a philips right now and am having no problems at all with audio levels too low on hd channels. As a matter of fact some of the hd channels are louder than the sd channels. When i had a mitsubishi tv the hd channels had low audio, on the same software i switched the tvs out and viola no more problems. Also i have not had any problems as of late (the last 5 to6 software updates) with audio lower on hd channels. It is the software in some tv's!!!

It's NOT the TV's, it's D*'s SOFTWARE UPGRADE and nothing else. If your Volume was higher before the update and lower after, there is only one conclusion.

http://www.dbstalk.com/showthread.php?t=143273So D* is going to buy me a new tv due to their sw update/low volume HD issue, lol? Yes, it is a sw issue, and yet another issue with this latest sw update that has me steaming. I am tired of having to turn up my Yamaha 1800, with 130w/channel to over halfway while viewing HD, only to have my speakers nearly blown out when an SD commercial comes on. It is amazing how bad this update is. I feel like I am using their initial beta software or something.

Yeah, I've seen similar behavior with the latest software. And I can guarantee it has nothing to do with the T.V. because I don't use one for audio (like yourself). The problem showed up recently on both my HR-21 and HR-20.

In my case in LA it's not DirecTV or the TV set. The volume on CBS HD and ABC HD is fine. It's a bit low on NBC HD. It's been this way all year. At one time Weather Channel volume was very low; now it seems comparable to other channels.

It's the stations!

I agree 100% i have 5 different tv's and all have the same low audio on HD channels since the latest update. I can turn my surround sound up to compensate for the low audio but almost blow the windows out of the house when a non HD commercial or program comes up. Then again it happens so many times maybe my hearing is going bad!

Mine runs through an audio system that has digital output for it's volume. I don't run it through my tv. Before the last few "upgrades" we'll call them, we listened at about a 12 to 14 level. Now for the same level we have to turn it up to 18 to 20. Nothing else has changed. It's obviously the software.

It's an easy check. Don't hint that new tv's should be purchased.

I figured it was coming - so I just thought I would throw it out there first. Like the old joke when the wife was caught in bed with another man red handed by her husband.

She says, "That's right - just stand there and believe your lying eyes."

I think that sort of logic is used quite a bit here in support of D*.

That is ridiculous. It does not depend on the brand of TV. Read the scores of posts in the first thread on this topic. The HD volume issue started with a software update.

For the record, I get lower sound volume on HD channels through my Sony CRT, but also, directly through my surround sound receiver which bypasses the TV.

I suppose you're going to tell me I need to buy a new SS receiver because your setup is just fine so it must be my equipment.

It's great that your equipment compensates for D* screwing up audio with a software update, but the answer is to fix the software not force people to buy new equipment to compensate.

It seems to me that dynamic range has increased. Most audiophiles appreciate that sort of thing.

See if your TV or A/V receiver has an audio compressor or normalizing function (some Yamaha's call it "Night Cinema" mode, for instance) and use it - it will help.

Come on folks you should know the routine...troubleshooting a DirecTV receiver works like this:

1. Must be the dish alignment
2. Must be the cabling
3. Must be the BBCs
4. Must be the UPS
5. Must be LNBs
6. Must be the TV.
7. Must be the guide data
8. Must be the multiswitch/swm
9. Must be the A/V receiver
10. Must be the content
11. Must be the content origination point
12. Must be user error
13. Under no circumstances is it the DVR code (njblackberry)
14. Multiple people reporting the issue all relates to #12 (njblackberry)
15. This never happened on the Tivo (njblackberry)
16. Must be something on the user's network. (harsh)

If it's NONE of those.

It must work perfectly.

Ken - your list is woefully incomplete ;)

How about "try unplugging it from the network"?

They know about the low volume issue and it will be addressed in the next software release....did not have a release date for me though...

My HD channel volume is fine.

Everything else is too loud, however.
