...it seems that one of my DirecTV cable wires as a side wire attached to it, and it appears to be grounded to a device that hooks the LNB wires to the wires that run through the house. I also have a separate wire frmo the house that is alone and appears to be grounded or provide power to the devise that connects the LNB wires to the cables running through the house. My question is this, do I need to worry about this side wire and lone wire when setting up the 8 way splitter?

Thanks again.

that is messenger Wire, and serves as a ground. you need to have a ground wire from the dish to the ground block, or if you use the splitter as a ground, to the splitter, and then to the electrical ground

It is the grounding wire and I am under the impression that is not necessary.

On a side note and unrelated, I grounded my dish to my earth ground as a just-in-case

So I will just use the screws on the side of the splitter to ground the dish and the electrical from the house. Is that right?

Try telling this to the NEC.

yes, one wire from the dish, to the splitter, and then from the splitter to electric ground

I only said that because the grounding codes I know about with NEC are for >24v Please set me strait if this is otherwise ;)

Every DTH / DBS installation has to be grounded to NEC code.

+1

This reminder is provided to call your attention to articles 810 and 820 of the 2005 National Electrical Code. Refer to article 810,
in particular 810-1 and 810-15, for required grounding of the metal structure of the dish antenna. Refer also to the 810-2 which, by
reference to article 820, requires that the satellite dish coaxial cable shield be connected to the grounding system of the building
as close to the point of cable entry as practical.

(Right in the manual for each rcvr)
