View Full Version : Does Directv Allow You To Subscribe To JUST A Sports Package?
I know Dish Network allows you to do this, but I was wondering if you could simply subscribe to JUST, for instance, the NHL package on Directv and nothing else? Anyone know?

No, you need a base package.
More specifically, you need some sort of package that qualifies for a receiver lease.

Umm, that would be any current DirecTV package.

I think the word base is missing.

Are you already a Directv subscriber? I am pretty sure you cannot do that with the NHL package, but if you were NFL Sunday Ticket subscriber already then you may be grandfathered in for it. I had just the NFL package for 5 years.
i ve seen people that have just NFL ST and after football season the programming is turned off.
Umm, that would be any current DirecTV package."any current DIRECTV package" is pretty broad.
According to the website, those who subscribe to the DIRECTV BASIC or PREFERRED CHOICE "base" packages aren't eligible.

Right their exact verbiage is "a qualifying programming package [is] required." I'm still confused at your statement from earlier:
More specifically, you need some sort of package that qualifies for a receiver lease.

Your original comment:More specifically, you need some sort of package that qualifies for a receiver lease.
As I posted, "any current DirecTV package" meets the requirement you set forth for a "package that qualifies for a receiver lease." You can add a leased receiver to any current or legacy package.
Also, I qualified my answer for "any current package." The current packages offered by DirecTV include - Family, Choice, Choice Xtra, Choice Xtra Plus DVR, Choice Xtra Plus HD DVR and Premier. I don't see Basic or Preferred Choice as "current package" offerings.
Besides, the basic answer is that you can't just have a premium sports package like Sunday Ticket, Center Ice, etc.

DirecTV used to allow this, but they don't anymore. Anyone who has it now is grandfathered in.
I don't see Basic or Preferred Choice as "current package" offerings.BASIC and PREFERRED CHOICE are "current" "base" packages typically associated with international channels.
We agree that the answer to the OP's question is unquestionably no.
What does this mean? :scratchinBecause the concept of a "base package" is somewhat vague, I filled in some of the details so that the OP could figure out what you were talking about. As I've illustrated, not all "base packages" qualify for leasing in and of themselves.

If I could, I would. But, you can't. :nono:
You have to take and pay for all the other dreck that you will never watch to get a sports package.
If they would let me, I'd call tomorrow for an H20/H21 and Center Ice. :D They wouldn't even have to roll a truck. I still have my slimline dish and enough coax lines, and all you have to do is look at my sig below to know I can aim a satellite dish.
