When are we going to get some more new locals? It seems to me that they are adding them very slowly compared to earlier this year. What is the hold up? Come on Dish, lets get with it.

They have slowed way down on locals because the 110/119 spot beams are pretty much full. They have very limited capacity to add more markets. There is rumor that they will add more LIL on 121 which will require subscribers to use a new Dish (instead of Dish500). If they do indeed use 121 after launch (and get it tested and working probably mid summer) they could add another 80 markets of LIL or so.
Not much hope for the crowded New England or other Northeast markets, then. 121 is pretty low on the horizon...
... and still NO cities in ME, NH, CT, RI, DE...

There said that they had capacity to add 30 more cities on a previous Charlie Chat and so far have not added even 10

Mike, there is quite a bit of room up there right now. Warming up in the bull pen right now is Paducah, KY. And I've mentioned before that there is room for at least one more city in the southeast with the transponders on right now. Yes that includes Pensacola, it also Columbia, Savanah, Columbus, GA (which has been recently rimored), Wilmington and Macon.
See ya

Transponder/Spot Beam capacity is only half of the equation. There are the retransmission agreements that have to be negotiated and in-place before a city can come on-line. This can be the major bottleneck in adding any new cities.

ya..but they've also said on previous Charlie and/or Retail chats that they would continue to gradually add them locals at the SAME pace as now (which is on the average varies between 1, 1.5 or 2 local cities per months) :)

True there are some spots that have capacity for adding markets, but the retransmission agreements are really slowing them down. I wonder if they decide to put 121 to LIL and have 500 channel capacity on it if they will call the new satellite dish the Dish1000?
Of course just because they have that much new capacity does not mean they will be able to get the retransmission agreements any faster.

What happens when DISH runs out of channel-number room? (They are getting pretty close to the PI Channels and SKY Angel.) Move the PI channels and Sky Angel to another spot? (maybe the 800s?)

I would like to see them add UPN.

They have 2 UPNs you can subscribe to. The superstations package is available with both WB and UPN. Both UPN are Eastern, WB has an eastern, mountain and western.

What do you mean add UPN? It is part of most locals now and two superstations are UPN affiliates.

Beans,
The 7000 block is always available. :-) Your receiver is already capable or tuning in to the 7000-7999 range. this is why when you punch in a channel number beginning with a 7 (when there used to be one) it took a little while before the receiver reacted.
There is also some room between markets in the 8000 range for small markets.
See ya

There are only 1650(approx) broadcast station. It is highly unlikely that they would need to go above 9999.

Lets see, over 60 markets they have now plus 30 they could add to what they have now plus another 80 on top of that is over 170 markets, in which is most of them.
Reminds me of the dish DirecTv is requiring for some of the newer markets they are adding this year. Same situation only the third slot is closer which may be an advantage.

There are channels with higher numbers now. At least one on just about every transponder. No need to select it though. :)
