I recently had a H21-200 HD receiver installed. It came with a RC64 remote control. This remote is IR only and works well with the H21 and Vizio TV. The problem is that the remote will turn on the H21 but will not have any other control of the H21 for approx. 15 minutes. After that all works well. If the H21 is turned off and sits for 30 minutes or so then the remote will not control the H21 again until the 15 minute warm up. I also have a RC34 that came with my HR20-700 that has the same symptoms so its not the remote. This RC34 also has an RF mode that works great all the time with the H21 except it won't work with my Vizio TV. DirecTV service came out and tried another H21 but it had the same problem. The service tech said I had an interferrence problem. I don't agree with this because once the H21 runs awhile all works again flawlessly. It seems to me there is an issue with the IR sensor circuit in the H21. DirecTV is sending me a RC64R which supports RF mode and my Vizio so hopefully this will resolve my problem. But I am currious to know if anyone else has seen this problem with the H21.

Thanks, Rick

"I think" it's your TV since [mine does] LCD screens emit large amounts of IR.

You could try turning off the TV (or unplugging it).. Changing a few channels and then turn it back on. See if the remote works with the H21 with the TV off to elminate interference.

IR is light... So try turning off any lights in your room. Maybe there is a light that is interfering?

IR is non visible "light".
My Sony has a power saving setting that I could change and stop it from swamping my other IR sensor [for MCE remote], but I use RF for [lack of] LOS anyway.

You don't say if your Vizio is LCD or plasma, when I had a plasma set it really screwed up my IR receivers if they were too close to it. Maybe try placing a 'shade' that extends out over the top of the front of the H21 to see if that might help.

As for getting the RF remote to work with the Vizio you can try this site http://www.directv.com/DTVAPP/global/contentPageIF.jsp?assetId=P4380054 to see if it helps find a code.

Yes, my Vizio is working with an RC 34

The model of my Vizio is VA26LHDTV10T. Do you remember what code you used for your TV? I have tried all that DTV had on their web site for Vizio TVs on the RC34. The one I used to get my RC64 to work is 11758.

Thanks

The one thing I didn't try is turning off the TV. It is a LCD model VA26LHDTV10T. I will try this when I get home. Thanks.

IIRC this was it: 10056
It only works the "on/off" function.

You were correct. The LCD Vizio TV was causing the interferrence. If I turn off the TV I can see the Power LED on the H21 flash indicating a channel change. Turning the TV back on the H21 power LED no longer flashes with a channel change. However, after the TV is on for about 15 minutes the H21 will work with the IR remote. Evidently this TV emits some type of IR. My solution will be to use a RF remote. This is the first time I have seem a TV cause this kind of problem. Thanks everyone for all your help.

Yes, that is the correct code. It works on/off and volume but will not work the tv input.
