As many know, the ViP612 got external hard drive folders a while back. They are quite helpful as we all expected and as those with 622/722's anticipate. No problems until today.

I inadvertently recorded a show at the same time on both my 612 and my 722. And then I stupidly put both on the EHD. On my 612 they both appeared in one folder with the same name. It's easier to see such a screwup with those handy folders. So I opened the folder, selected one and pressed "delete".

And it deleted both.:eek2:

I can rerecord the show on Sunday, so it's no big deal. But now I know that if I have two copies of the same show which likely have the same identifier, don't put them on the same EHD.

Did you pass this along to tech support?

Kind of off topic but probably somewhat related ... I am not sure how the EHD handles duplicate recordings but it has something to do with the show info in the guide I think. I record some movies from CinemaxEast HD and back it up with an SD version (I get frequest dropouts on Cinemax HD). I noticed when I record a movie on Cinemax HD and Cinemax SD and try and move them both to the EHD I get problems. Once one of the versions is on the EHD it will not transfer the other one. As soon as I select it to "send" to EHD I get a message saying transfer complete but it is not on the EHD and is still on the DVR. If I tape one version on CinemaxEast and one on CinemaxWest this does not happen.

Did you pass this along to tech support? No, but I will today. I don't perceive this as a major problem as I can't see why anyone deliberately would record a show on two DVRs and then archive the recordings on the same EHD as when the EHD crashes you'd lose both. But it would have been nice to have a warning or at least a "this isn't right" as described here: Kind of off topic but probably somewhat related ... Definitely sounds like you got a edge condition not handled properly phrelin. Well described.
