So, I bit the bullet and just purchased a Blu-Ray player (Samsung BD-P2500). It helped the the drawer on my old DVD play has been sticking the the last couple of years...

First some background on my network: Smoothwall 3.0 Firewall (DHCP, transparent Proxy, snort...)
Dell Power Connect 2716 (16 port managed 10/100/1000 switch)
D-Link DIR-655 WiFi router used as a WiFi access point as well as a four port switch at my home theater rig (DHCP off, Static IP, etc)
ReadyNAS NV+ - music library (as well as the WINS server)

The BD-P2500 is connected to the D-Link 10/100/1000 switch (along with a DirecTV HR21-100 DVR and two Squeeze Boxes [one wired and one WiFi]). All devices, other than the BD-P2500, can connect to the Internet and the system has been working for well over a year...

Issue: The BD-P2500 connected to the Samsung FTP site and downloaded the latest software (081128 or something like that) without any problems. However, when I tried to connect to the Netflix website I get an error saying that the unit can not connect to my home network. I have tried both static and dynamic IP addresses, three different CAT-5e cables, turning my proxy off and removing the D-Link out of the equation by connecting strait to the other switch, all give the same error. Additionally, I can ping to the BD-P2500 from a PC.

Any ideas?

Not sure if this will apply in your case but apparently there are some problems with the Netflix delivery to the Samsung boxes and some intermittent ones with the XBox 360.. I understand they are being worked on.

Also have you tried putting the Samsung on a DMZ connection,,, if your router allows for them?

Maybe Netflix had issues? Try again later.
Other than that...

I haven't play with hardware DMZ (Would require me to add another NIC to the firewall computer) but I have played with the firewall settings and told it to bock nothing from/to the players IP address.

Editorial Note: Smoothwall Express is an open source Linux based firewall package that will turn any old PC into a near corporate grade firewall it requires ZERO Linux knowledge. The cost, assuming you have an old PC and two NIC's, is zero.

Maybe Netflix had issues? Try again later.
Other than that...I've tried two days in a row with no luck. Also, the error message says that it can not connect to my home network and to check my router...

If you haven't solved your problem by now...

If you can, try connecting directly to either your router or your modem and see if you can see the Netflix site. This will tell you whether you have a Lan/firewall issue or a Sammy issue. If you can connect to either the Sammy home site or Netflix, then it's a Lan/firewall problem...if not, then you might have gotten a bad upgrade...if so, you might then want to burn the update onto a cd and install manually. I have a Sammy UP5000 and we've had lots of issues regarding online software updates...see the stories over at AVS forum...

Hope this helps...

Hopefully you've solved your problem by now,... but if you haven't. I had a similar problem. It is not the 2500,... it is most likely your DSL Modem or router that is causing the problem. I had a Belkin router hooked to my single port DSL modem. It was the source of the problem. When hooked directly to the DSL modem by itself, it worked fine. I replaced the router with a DSL modem that had wireless and extra ports and it solved the problem immediately . The PQ is great.
