A recent issue that I have had with Dish has been the need to use several remotes to watch DVD movies. Setting up a device on the remote so that it turns on and off does not necessarily mean it will allow you to 'USE' the device. For all of it's problems at least the 7100 receiver allowed you to use several devices from 1 remote.

Ask the TECH guys if Echostar is deliberately moving away from the 'all-in-one' remote to something else. I'd sure like to be able to use the remote that came with my 508 receiver to control most, if not all, of my devices. Not just turn them on and off.

You are asking the same question many have asked. If DISH does not have the code stored for your product it will never operate the product,PERIOD. Do you see a button on the remote marked DVD? All they have is the AUX button that they have stored a limited amount of codes in. If you want a remote that will operate eveything start looking for a UNIVERSAL REMOTE that operates your products preferrably a LEARNING REMOTE. Stop and think what you are asking them to do, how many products and codes are there no go back at least 10 years seeing products don't last just 1 year. They have to make the best educated guess to put the products most people have into their prestored file of information.

I'll second the Learning Universal Remote vote. I now have a 501, 6000, VCR, DVD, CD, and TV all operating off a single remote. And that's WITH all the fancy PVR functions. It wasn't cheap (~$100), but it was definitely worth it. Anyway, I think there's a whole 'nother thread around here somewhere about remotes.
