I think you guys might be interested in this one:

Yesterday, Cablevision called to tell me that their new digital cable service, IO, is being rolled out in my area and they were wondering if I was interested in subscribing. I told them no and that I'm very happy with the *satellite* service I am getting now. That's when the fun started. :D She offered me one free month of IO with free installation if I just gave it a try, and that I can keep my satellite service at the same time so that I can compare the two. She also noted that my cable internet service would be cheaper (by a whopping $5/month) if I subbed to cable TV. I told her that I'd have to get back to her on that since I'm not quite in charge of the household. She warned me that if I called back at another time, I probably won't get offered the deal that she mentioned to me. Yeah whatever, lady. Nice sales tactics.

I'm thinking about actually giving it a try...hey, I've got nothing to lose except breaking my 2-year streak of no cable TV in the house. Chances are that I won't keep it because it is VERY expensive and Cablevision's customer service is god awful.

So if anyone in the NY Metro area is looking for some free digital cable, just give Cablevision a call and mention the word "satellite". :) :D

I just dropped Cablevision TV service for DirecTV. When I called to cancel the person I spoke to me didn't even try to ask me why or offer me any deals. I was very surprised, I expected to put up an arguement! I too have their cable modem service and, in fact, that is what made me finally decide to go to satellite, they raised teh price of Optimum Online for me from $29/mo to $45/mo! Since it was now only a $5 difference to the price I was happy to pay that and go for DirecTV for the same price as my cable service with MANY more channels!

Sorry Cablevision! YOU LOSE!

TWCNYC was giving a really sweet deal where they buy your DBS setup and then give you three free months of everything. I wouldn't mind really, because apart from the PVR's, they beat the hell out of DirecTV and DISH, if you bundle it with RoadRunner. However, I'm not giving up my DirecTiVo so easily...

By the way, Cablevision does not serve the whole of New York CIty and its environs. It serves only parts of the Bronx, Brooklyn, Long Island and parts of Northern New Jersey. Manhattan, Queens and some parts of Brooklyn are Time Warner.
