I have "Little People, Big World" set as a Series Link on my HR20 and all I get is a blank recording of the 8pm episode last night. I have tried RESUME and START OVER and to not avail. I also recorded another program at 8pm last night on another channel (same time as "Little People, Big World") and it recorded fine, and the 8:30pm episode recorded fine. I even rebooted. Nothing but a blank screen. Just curious if its a problem on my end of maybe TLC HD had issues at 8pm last night.

try looking at the signal strength of 99c and 103c on both tuners. If one tuner is significantly lower than the other, swap the cables(including bband) to see if the problems stays or moves to the other tuner. Then try swapping just bband convertors. That then should help narrow it down to alignment, tuner, cable, and bband convertor.

My recordings were fine last night of the 8pm and 8:30pm episodes.. so it wasn't a TLC HD issue... Sorry I can't be of more help.

I've had this happen. We were timeshifting and finished watching the one show live and was going to start the "still being recorded" show. Kept trying to select it and nothing worked. We then tried bringing up the guide to just change channels, and no dice. Had to do a red button reset and when it came back (after it's 15 minute power up procedure... sucks...) the recording was blank. Thankfully A) I think the DirecTV DVRs are complete and utter crap so I record anything I actually care about on multiple receivers and B) It was sci-fi so we got the west coast replay of it (just because it's on the other DVR's doesn't mean we want to sit in the office and watch it).

Sorry I don't have an answer for you beyond "no, you aren't crazy, I've seen the same thing".

I'm sorry, but I just can't resist...

Maybe the camera was just aimed a little too high... :nono:

Wasn't on TLC's end. Watched it here with no issues at all.

I'd like to see one of the signal level experts comment on this, perhaps its a weak signal on that transponder? Isnt ESPN subject to blacking out if signals are weak or something? Maybe TLC is in a similar boat? This isnt the first thread on this show recording blank.

The signals look OK. When recording a program, you can't look at the signal strengths (as I recall) or it will stop the recording. The 8:30pm show recorded just fine and I rerecorded the 8pm episode at 11pm with no problems.

I've had this happen to me many times. I"ve reported it to DTV recently but i'd say I would run into this issue two to three times a month for probably the past year. It could happen when recording something or when watching live TV. Only thing with my occurrances is they only happen on my local HD channels (NBC, CBS, or FOX).

What happens is i'll be watching a channel like comedy central or something up in the 200 range, change channels to my local and i'll get a black screen. I"ll have a title bar, says what the program is, time, etc. I Don't get any signal searching dialog or anything. I"ll switch back to another channel in the 200 range -- CNN or something -- then go back to my local and 8 times out of 10 it'll be there.

Sometimes i'll get unlucky and record a show on a local HD channel that is all black. *shrugs*

I guess i'm too nice to DTV cuz I just left it up to "it's a known issue and there will likely be a software update in the next few weeks". This was a week ago.

Any ideas?

I generally have 90 to 98% reception on both tuners on most days.
