I don't get it. What legal purpose would it serve if they found out that I watch Survivor?

More of the nonsensical notions of yesteryear like those of Hoover's FBI where what you listened to and read was some sort of pointer to your politics and intent. Hogwash.

History is that there's just enough good and decent folks to stymie the paranoid, but after 9/11/1 they've got a heck of a cudgel to wield to get their way. This is one Republican who thinks they're a bunch of fruity fools who need a dose of their grandma's backhand and a stern, "MIND YOUR OWN BUSINESS SONNY!"

I don't really care if the government knows I watch paranormal and extra terrestrial documentaries, various police and medical dramas and a few hours of Fox News a day, I have nothing to hide. Maybe they could send the research to the networks and have them kill reality tv once and for all! :)

It isn't a matter of if you have nothing to hide. It is still YOUR "nothing" whether you hide it or not. They don't have a good purpose to this that can pass US Supreme Court muster and it will eventually have to fall. Problem is that in the meantime, they tend to do a lot of damage and make cracks that they use to weasel further damages to the Constitution in later.

Two steps forward and one step back is the way they do things; corrosion by creeping government is what it is.

Remember, there are people in this government (and not jsut this administration) who want to put you under surveillance based on what you read, what you buy from Barnes & Noble or what you rent at Blockbuster.

Sure, you have nothing to hide - but the paranoid types who can't get a job in the REAL world would like nothing better that to get in your life.

Damn, all those Golden Girl reruns on Lifetime are going to give away my top secret plans! This is stupid. Most Arabs dont have TV's any way, they spend the money on explosives and flight schools.

So, how do they know just what I'm watching? I mean, I have my DTivo running 24/7, but I don't watch TV twenty-four hours a day. Do they think I'm watching soap operas all day when I'm actually at work?

I don't want them to believe I'm gay (not that there's anything wrong with that ;) ).
