Two things...

1. Keep that wet white crap to yourself... no sending it Georgia way..

2. Super Soaker or garden hose...

I'll try the garden hose the broom didn't seem to work. This is a miracle for New Orleans. I haven't seen snow like this since the late 80's. Glad I live in the Sunbelt. Thank you to the snow birds.:)

If you have a hose that works, just hit it with some water or if in a reachable area throw some warm to hot warm on the dish.

Snowstorm?! It's not even sticking to the pavement! Where I live--the lake effect snowbelt south of Buffalo on Lake Erie--we call that...foreplay!

The hose didn't work. It is still snowing. I guess that can block a signal like rain right? I no longer like snow.

How much snow did you get? Around here it usually takes something like 6 to 10 inches before the signal goes out. Light snow barely even registers lower readings on the signal strength menu (we don't bother clearing that off since it usually melts the next day).

If the snow is heavy enough, it can block the signal. Wait for the deformation band to move out from your area. I heard cold air aloft was starting to warm as the low moves away and snow is changing to sleet, so just wait an hour or so. Enjoy the snow while you can, since it is a rare treat down that way.

We actually got about 2-4". It stayed on the ground but not the pavement. It snowed for about 6 hours. We are now getting a strange ice water mix. D* is slowly coming back. I can't yet get my locals. Oh well it was fun while it lasted. Got to make a snowman and have a snowball fight with my son! :)

Seriously, can't you just lightly broom it off? That's what I do here.

Wow, that is more snow than we've had all year here in Dayton, Ohio!

About 1-2 inches at my house and had to sweep off the dish also, but my parents who live north of Lake Pontchartrain in the Folsom area got 9 inches......

Of course they have the essentials covered - generator started and dish cleaned. :)

That same front just passed over and is heading off the into the Atlantic. Even if it was still snowing in the upper atmosphere, at a balmy 61 degrees on the ground, it was liquid snow by the time it hit, which is what we've been getting for the past 2-3 hours.

Here's the funny thing.

You are located in the south. Therefore, your dish is significantly less vertical than those in the north, where snow is more common. Thus, more snow on the dish.

Here in NJ the dish surface is nearly vertical and we collect very little snow on it.

Don't worry about the "little bit" of snow ya'll are getting.
As a Louisiana native, I got 30 emails from my relatives about the snow but here in Milwaukee we are on pace to break last year's snowfall and my dish has worked every day except for about 45 minutes one morning!

It was wet, clingy snow/slush. The stuff stuck to and accumulated on vertical signs, so a tilted dish had no chance :)

Yes this stuff is very sticky and very thick, as in about twice the water content of the snow you usually get in the upper midwest and probably 4-5 times the water as the powder you get in the Rockies (mmm miss the skiing). In addition for most of the morning it was right at about 32-35 degrees so it was constantly freezing and then melting.

Never understood why some people get so upset over a satellite dish. No they are not a thing of beauty. Neither are basketball goals, garden gnomes etc..... Life is short stop worrying about your neighbor and worry about you and your family.

Not being an Al Gore defender (or any politician, for that matter), but the science issues in global warming are more evidenced by volatility and unusually intense weather events, than how cold a winter may be in a given area. As the atmosphere heats up, more energy is available, thus increased intensity and volatility. GW has little or nothing to do with localized temperatures for a given season.

There are more ill-informed myths debunking GW, than there are advocating it, and two of the posts in this thread are prime examples, even if stated with humor. The scientific evidence (peer reviewed research, not internet blather) regarding the existence of GW is pretty solid. The causes for same, are up for debate and all sorts of political machinations.

Let's not confuse the phenomenon with it's cause. It's happening.

Now...back to your regular programming, as this isn't the place for a full fledged debate on GW.:)

It snowed about 4-5 inches here near Lafayette. First time I ever had to remove snow from my dish. It was nice,I fired up the 4-wheeler and went skiing in the fields. It was the most snow Ive ever seen here.

Redneck? well, It works, it is cheap, It only comes on when the temp drops below 32 degrees. the neighbors have dishes as well, I laugh every time they go out to clear their dishes, as I never have to.
