I currently get all of the Atlanta HD locals via antenna + a MyHD PC based receiver. As a Dish customer I'd like to eventually replace my 501 with a 921 & feed my OTA HD through the 921.

Does anybody know (or suspect) whether the 921 would still continue to feed through & record OTA HD if the Dish satellite signal is lost on a stormy day? In other words, since the OTA signal is not Dish/satellite based, would the 921 continue functioning with OTA input regardless whether the satellite signal is present or not?

If not, then the 921 becomes the single point of failure for all signals passing through it...not acceptable for me...

I agree. That is one thing I hate about the 6000. If there is no satellite signal you can't watch the local 8VSB channels.

You can still watch OTA without the satellite. But, you have to be on the OTA channel before you lose the satellite signal. Once you have lost the signal it will get stuck looking for it. But, if you are on the local channels you can stay on them without the satellite.

In fact I have disconnected the dishes and done a switch test. Since it could not find the dishs it went LIL only. You could not switch to any sat channel and the guide only showed LIL.

I don't know the answer, but I do know that with the Dish 6000 as long as I am on the OTA station it will stay on even without the satellite signal.

I don't really know if the 921 will have this problem or not, and there should be no guide download needed after watching an off air channel since the unit has dual tuners.

The 6000 will stay OTA as long as you don't key the wrong channel in or press the Guide button. Once you slip up it will search for the sat again.

I always use the transparent browse to go to the channel I want. If I want Sat, I will browse to a Sat channel, tune it in for a few seconds then hit the Guide button. I sure hope they don't keep this "feature" with the 921.
