Probably been asked before but... Currently have 722 serving two TV's. If I were to get another HDTV (to replace the currently analog 2nd TV) in order to have access to HD programming on this 2nd TV also... what would be the procedure. I assume I would have to get a separate HD receiver. If so could that receiver be hooked up to the same cable that is currently serving TV2.
Would HD programming then be available.
Could one still record programs via this TV using or thru the 722 as the 2nd receiver would not be a DVR to I assume save cost.

Generally what is involved as far as equipment, hook up, additional cost, etc.
Thanks. Been a customer for only about 2 months now.

Call DISH and ask them as a 2 month customer you are about 10 months short of any upgrade offers. See what they will do for you.

For a second receiver, you need to run a second coax from the dish to the new receiver and no you cannot play any dvr from the first receiver to the new one. You would get all the HD programing, but the second receiver would need to be HD as well and would incur a $7 additional receiver fee. You could also run HD connections to the new tv, but that tv and tv1 on the 722 would be viewing the same program at the same time. Sometimes that is acceptable to people who may not be using the two tv's at the same time. If the new tv is not HD, you could also split off the coax run to your current second tv to the new tv as well, but then the new tv and second tv would be viewing the same program. If you give a more complete senerio of what you want on the new tv, we can give you a more accurate answer to your questions.

Similar to the initial poster, I am in a similar situation -- and may answer any of their open questions with mine. :)

I currently have HDTV1 with the 722 DVR. I will be picking up a second HDTV shortly and wish it to have the HD signal (aware that a limitation of the 722 is that the multi-room support is downgraded to SD).

So, it sounds like my only option for HDTV2 to receive HD is to get a discreet HD receiver for it. Not yet decided if it needs to be another DVR or just a standard HD receiver.

My question though is do I need to rent a second HD receiver through Dish and incur the $7 monthly fee or can I purchase one somewhere and not add any extra fees to my monthly Dish bill?

(I'm sure this question has been asked before, but did not find it in a search).

Thanks.

Thanks. If you have more than 1 tuner on your account you are subject to an additional outlet fee. If you own the receiver it is an additional outlet if you lease it is a lease fee but it is the same amount.:) :) :)

Owned vs. leased makes no difference: you pay an additional fee for every receiver that is active on your account beyond the first one, in order to get programming on that receiver.

An SD receiver is $4.99/month.
An HD receiver is $6.99/month.

There is also a DVR fee for each DVR: $5.99/month.

Dual-tuner receivers are charged $4.99/month for the second output (just as if you were using two separate receivers), UNLESS the receiver is plugged into a phone line, or if it's a ViP-series HD receiver, to the Internet.

Dish has a lease limit: they will only lease equipment to support 4 TVs. Any dual-output receiver counts as 2, even if that receiver is used in Single Mode. Any receivers beyond the lease limit must be purchased retail, and the customer is responsible for all fees related to getting that receiver installed (i.e., any Dish/switch upgrades).

Dish has a lease upgrade program called Dish'n It Up where you can add or upgrade leased receivers. You can only use Dish'n It Up once per 12 month period. Upgrades outside the Dish'n It Up plan must be purchased at retail.

ViP-series (HD) receivers include:

211 - single tuner, single output receiver (can optionally be made into a DVR by paying a one-time $39 fee and adding an external USB hard drive; no monthly DVR fee).

222 - dual tuner, dual output receiver.

612 - dual tuner, single output DVR

622/722 - dual tuner, dual output DVR (622 is silver and smaller harddrive, 722 is black and larger drive)

Thanks for the info IIP. :)

I think I'll go the 211 route (no need for a dual-tuner on second TV). Also, I need to be sure to connect my 722 to the Internet to avoid the addt'l $5 monthly fee.
