about a month-1/2 ago, i purchased a DTVPal for a small analog tv set in one of the spare rooms. i got it all connected and went through the steps to make sure it functioned properly. everything was fine. a few weeks later, i went to do some work in that room, and, turned on the set, along with the DTVPal. after a bit of watching, i noticed the system was having some problems with the digital signal---so, i switched to just the analog. every now and then, i noticed the green power light on the DTVPal going on and off (randomly). so, i shut the whole thing down. every once in awhile (while unit is off) i noticed the green light would go on and off on its own. i turned the unit back on (with the tv) and now noticed that none of the functions worked. it wouldn't scan for stations, the remote wouldn't work except for the power button, etc. so, i took the unit back to Sears for an exchange.

the new one seems to be functioning just fine (so far), BUT, have noticed that the green light on this new unit goes on and off randomly, also. not in the room that much, so, don't know how often a day it does it. i just happen to notice it the other night while listening to the radio---all of a sudden, i see a green light on, then, 30 seconds or so later, it shuts off.

this is two units that have done this now (except, i had to replace the first one).

just wondering, for those that have the DTVPal, if they have noticed the same thing?

The IR Sensor will react to anything IR. Also that convertor comes with a power down feature that is set for 4 hours as a default. You can turn this off in the settings.

That is normal operation for the DTVpal, it does periodic maintenance when off.

Actually it is scanning channels constantly and collecting data for EPG.

So, is that normal operation?

Yes, by design.

I've found mine lock up about once a month, the green light stays on but won't respond to remote. Cure like most DISH products pull the power plug and do a reset. Minor irratation but expected from a DISH product.

Perhaps your local stations transmitting weird packets - no problem here taking in account a few stations with very bad signal.

Both of my DTVpal+'s began doing the same thing. The green light turning on for ~30 seconds. I noticed that while light was on, the analog passthrough was interupted. To me it seems as though the converter box was restarting. It looked like it was going through the same process as when you unplug and plug in the box. After this cycle when I turned on the box it would load the guide data before tuning to a channel.

I reset the boxes to the factory defaults went through the setup. They are no longer going through the 30 second cycle.

Perhaps if the box gets some bad guide data it restarts when getting guide updates.

i bought one for my grandmother's house. it fouled out after about 3 weeks (light would stay on, but no signal to TV). got a replacement thru Dish, after 2 weeks same symptoms. finally bit the bullet and got her a new TV. it was a shame, the DTVPal box was pretty neat for what it was intended to do. for some odd reason it wasn't happy at grandma's.

It didn't reset after a power reset ?
