I just got in some RG6 with mess wire that is supposed to be solid copper.How do I tell? Looking at the cross section it does not look like solid copper. It looks like silver(color) wrapped with copper.
It says Perfect vision RG6 75 OHM on the cable.

Thanks

silver color says it is steel with a copper clad.
use a magnet to be sure.

No, not on cable or on the invoice.The invoice is from paypal so has no numbers, just discription. I bought it by the foot from Pro Satellite Supply.

OK so if drawn to magnet it is copper clad?

Hey Mike,

Yes...........strip the insulation and outside web away and cut off about an inch of the center wire. IF solid copper the magnet won't affect it. I only mention this because I think there is still some steel web or coated web cable around.

Spec writers insist the solid copper is better than the copper clad.

can you read us what it says on the cable itself?

or can you post a link to where or how you bought it?

Just did the magnet test and looks like copper clad, attached to magnet! The link is above, I took a chance with this supplier, should have asked you guys first. It's the RG6 single with messenger. You can see in the discription it says solid copper.
On the cable it just says Perfect Vision RG6 75 OHM. I bought by the foot 160'.

well, they might say solid copper but what reinforces that will be the part number which they did not mention.

when I bought a reel of 1000' from another vendor, I made sure the part number was shown relative to the specs.

now my project is done, I got an extra 480' left.

Unless you are planning very long runs you should be in the clear.

Definitely verify the Perfect 10 part number when you order; it's easy to read:

UL = UL Listed
PV = Perfect Vision
RG6 = Well, if you don't know...
SC = Solid Copper
BLK = Black Jacket

CCS = Copper-Clad-Steel
