Bell ExpressVu, the Canadian satellite TV service operated by north of the border telecommunications giant BCE, saw a small increase in its customer base during the first quarter, reporting 13,000 net additions and taking its total to 1.317 million subscribers.
BCE lowered its 2003 expectations for Bell ExpressVu Wednesday. The company forecasted year-end subscribers for the satellite TV service to total 1.41 million to 1.46 million, down from a previous estimate of 1.45 million to 1.55 million.
BCE also said it expects Bell ExpressVu's revenue growth to be at the low end of its 2003 guidance - of 20 percent to 25 percent - and confirmed previously stated guidance of approximately 50 percent EBITDA growth.
However, Bell ExpressVu reported improved revenue figures for the three-month period. First quarter revenues for the service were $177 million ($123.41 million U.S.), up from $151 million ($105.29 million U.S.) reported during the same period in 2002. Increases in Bell ExpressVu's subscriber base and pricing for some packages contributed to the improvement in revenues, the company said.
